Hello everyone I am new to the forum but plan to be a regular visitor from now on. (I bet you have heard that one before).

Allow me to explain my situation, I am 20 years of age and just have no build whatsoever, I have plenty of definition and the muscles I do have are prominent on my body...I just desperately need to build on these to get away from hearing things like the subject of my post.

As a new years resolution, it is my objective for 2006 to have a nice \/ increasing my chest as much as possible but maintaining a good overall body build. I am not aiming to compete just have an average impressive size build.

My gym membership begins at the end of January and I have started reading books about a good diet and possible beginner routines. This is my problem I have no clue where to begin, so I am determined to research as I want results if I am going to do this.

So where do I begin? I am very fit but the amount of running I have/am doing is giving me the marathon runner physic I feel and I want to get away from this.

I read motivation is a key factor so if anyone wants to talk bodybuilding, diets or anything please feel free to add me to msn. I'm going to go for it next year and I will keep you all informed.

Any comments are welcome :)

Daniel

Where do you begin?

Here's what I suggest: build a beginners routine for yourself. Aim to hit every body part with a somewhat equal amount of sets. Make sure each body part is being hit by compound (big movements involving a large amount of muscles) and isolation (small movements that focus on one or two muscle groups) movements. Look into all the exercises you have chosen and carefully read how to preform them with correct form. If one seems tricky, read it, try the movement at home with no weights, and then read it over again to make sure you did it right. The first week in the gym you'll experiment with all these new movements, don't worry about intensity and the amount of weight you can do yet. Just start small, get used to the movement, then see how much weight you can add to make your rep range a challenge for next week. Write this weight down. On the 2nd week and on. you'll be comfortable in the gym atmosphere and most of the movements, then you can start lifting with intensity, raising the weights when you need more of a challenge.

Good luck! Two other suggestions I can give you is to take a before picture of yourself, you'll look back on it one day and it'll give you a huge sense of satisfaction and show you that what you're doing is actually paying off. Also keep a simple journal to record the weights and exercises you did everyday so that you can see your improvement and help make changes for further improvement.

I'll leave the nutritional aspect to the next poster or your books Smile

Hi Quarter.

You've confirmed what I read about marking weights lifted and always looking to improve on it weekly in small chunks, thanks. I just want to build on what I already have and 'fill out that t-shirt' better.
