yet another squat video...
-
Wednesday, July 23, 2008 9:42 PM
Alright so I've took the weight down to 65 lbs on my bar and squatted with my quads below my knees with a quite wide stance so I wouldn't fall down and hum.... DAYUMMMMM WHAT A FEEEELING! I literally got a quadgasm So yea... KIDS, UNLOAD THE BAR AND DO THOSE SQUADS BELOW PARALLEL.... IT'S LIKE SEX FOR THE LEGS. But yea along with going below parallel I got a light sensation ( idk if it's tickling, pain or anything) in my right knee... maybe it's because i brought my knee before my toes or something but yea.. is it because i could've been too far below parallel or something? cause I'm really glad that I got my form down.. finally IDK why it took so long but hey... but I don't want to mess up my knee hehe.. Anyways hopefully it'll raise my bench strength and deadlift strength cause lately I've been wanting to reach the 1000lbs club >_<

Can you describe when in the squat you get the pain and where on your knee it is? Does it start from the first rep or does it take time before you feel it?

Oups I didn't mean video I mean't question or thread.. anyways. I didn't quite remember cause I posted right after I squatted... and I kind of still felt a ticking ( I'm not injured, I can tell... you know that feeling you have when you've been tickled not long ago?) so yea it's not like it's probly not gonna be accurate but yea. I just went to do 1 rep and basically I get the ''pain'' from the standing up motion and on. Like i said I still have a ''painy'' feeling when I did the checking rep so It might not be very accurate as it wasn't really gone so maybe we may wait tommorow cause I'll actually workout tommorow, I just felt like going for a form feel today... but give away if you have any thoughts tho

I really can't say with the way you described it. The best advice I can give is to stop if it's hurting and see a trainer in the gym to check your form.

had the exact same thing happen to me. was utilizing a fairly wide stance for squats, but my knees were NOT lining up over my toes. where in your knee is the pain?? and is it during, or after the squat? if the pain is in the inside of the knee, it's most likely due to you letting your knee come inward at the bottom of the squat/push. If the pain is on the outside/lateral side, it's more and likely due to letting the knee go outward when you squat/push. MAKE SURE your knees stay locked in the area over your toes during the whole squat. hope that helps.

Pain is sort of outward on the knee, at the push motion. I'll make sure I do that I keep you updated on how it goes... I didn't go to sleep today i felt like it so I'll wait for tommorow to train and let you know about how it goes

really sounds to me like you're letting your right knee flare out a bit. try to keep inward over the toes. drop the weight on your squats and proceed from there. i had to totally re-learn squats b/c i was doing what you were doing and kept going higher in weight and eventually my knee hurt so bad i thought i was going to have to have surgery or something. bad decision on my part. form > high weights. so.. work on your form and try to keep an eye on your knees and make sure they stay in the same place thru-out the full R.O.M. of the squat

Also, this may seem obvious, but make sure and thoroughly warm up your knee joint before doing squats. I would not directly start off on squating as soon as you hit the gym even if you're just using lift weight. I would warm up with easier exercises first then move on to squat warm up. For example, hit a couple leg extensions, a couple leg presses, a couple sets of lunges, etc then start your squat warm up.
