Hmm, I used to take 800-1000mg a day in the summer and was still tha most cut up of my life. I was completely addicted though and I chilled out a little. I still like a few bags of green tea in the morning and a 200mg capsule before I lift though.

Also I would have thought that much caffeine would put you in a catabolic state. Wouldn't (can't think of the name of that stress chemical or hormone, cortisol?) be released? I'm guessing at least for you, RS, there were no worries because I don't recall you burning muscle on your cut.

RS, You'll forever by invincible! But did your pits drip? You don't see any negatives of too much caffeine other than addiction (small problem!)?

I looked for caffeine pills for like two hours the other day. I went in Wallgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, and the dollar store looking for them and just couldn't find them.

JMBS RS, You'll forever by invincible! But did your pits drip? You don't see any negatives of too much caffeine other than addiction (small problem!)? Its definitely a problem. I was always tired if I wasn't on it. Maybe that had something to do with the ephedrine as well. I always took the two together. But I almost always crashed after I got home from the gym and took a nap. Whenever I came down Id have to either take more if I was gonna be doing something or Id just be real tired. I was so addicted, multiple times Id drink a quad shot of espresso and then fall right asleep for the night like it didnt even affect me at all.

I miss caffeine but I guess it's for the best. Ginseng just doesn't hit it like caff. Idk if this bulk is working out right or not. I am down two pounds since yesterday eating in a surplus, soooo maybe I should eat more or is it just fluctuation?

I added more weight than I even wanted to. Its pretty easy to understand why too, on the carb up you can get up to 150% glycogen recompensation. That doesnt happen on a regular high carb diet. The no carb phase works to keep the fat off so that your insulin sensitivity stays good and you remain efficient at nutrient paritioning. Oh and you never become tha fat out of shape guy whose "bulking" <--haha

RS, I know this is probably in your journal or something, but I'm lazy. :( When you're on the low-carb days of keto and working out, what is your pre- and post-workout nutrition regimen? Is that where the few carbs you have on those days are consumed? What days of the week do you work out? Your carb up days are Sat and Sun? Also, basically on low-carb days it's proteins, good fats, and veggies. No other carbs? On carb up days do you try to keep to low GI carbs or does it not matter? Sorry if I can find this in a FAQ somewhere but I would just like the short and sweet. Thx! And bulk vs. cut is simply a matter of calories above or below maintenance I guess? Thx! I think I'm comfortable with doing a keto cut but still worry about the safety of keto long term and continuous. Don't mean to open the debate up again, just stating where my thinking is as of now.

evoo = extra virgin olive oil. ****, i thought the point was to go like extra high on the keto days (4500 cal) and then even higher on the carb up. I thought the whole maintenance deal was if you were cutting.

I've read that you should avoid fructose on the carb days on this diet because it completely replenishes liver glycogen - Surely if you're chucking down 800 + grams of carbs that's going to happen regardless?

Considering that I dont eat any fruit during the week, Im getting my fruit in on the carbload day. Its true, but I dont think its worth it to listen to it. You would never get any fruit if you did.

Here's an interesting blog post from an even more interesting blog: http://drbganimalpharm....il-kicks-crpola-out.html The chick who runs the blog is a pharmacologist interested in fitness, specifically heart health. The blog isn't scientific at all, but she is totally pro-lipid. Which is something the pro-keto crowd can get behind. EDIT: on second look, the blog is actually rather scientific. She just presents the information in rather non-scientific prose.

RS, I have come to a decision Instead of bulking with high carbs until February and having a lot of extra fat do a 3 day maint. calories in keto, 2 days deficit, 2 days surplus carb up. That should be a simultaneous muscle gain/fat loss approach correct? If so, I should be able to run my bulk all the way to April, then start cutting for summer.

It might be different for people with higher bf%s than myself but in my experience, 2 day carb loads are for gaining size only. Theyll be lean gains, yes. But say youre around 10-12% or higher, i bet itd be a different story.

I'm more like 15% ish and 200 pounds. You suggest one day carb load instead? I gotta get faster and bigger, and probably need to be leaner. I'm going for running back, and maybe strong safety or defensive end depending on how large I get.

I gotta be bigger though. I have to be. I need to be 200 and lean, at least. Do you think the 3 days maint, 3 days deficit, 1 day surplus will do a recomp over time? I'm changing my training to 5/3/1 for a more functional approach and starting plyos anyway

Even people who do regular bulk and cut cycles will recommend not going past 15%. Youre carrying soo much useless weight. Cut down and get your strength up. You can use that strength later to put on more mass...fatty.
