why i have no bicep? - Sunday, August 30, 2009 5:12 AM ( #1 )
i can bench 120kg, squat 150kg. but my bicep never grow.   from day 1 i use  12kg dumbbell. 3 years on, i still struggle to use 16kg ones.   my tricep is very big, but virtually no bicep at all.  Anyone can help?

i was told bicep is small muscle, very easy to get tired, so i need to use heavy weight to shock it. but others say i need to use light weight do 5x15 etc.

pls help!   many thanks

everyone has weaknesses.  You probably just have genetically weaker biceps.  Unless you juice, they will probably never be canons.

Thats not to say give up on them.  Take them to their potential but, its probably not gonna be anything jaw-dropping.

My arms dont really grow either, but theyve grown enough to look good.

Agree with this. It is most likely genetics. I highly doubt my biceps have gotten much bigger, most likely my triceps have accounted for growth.

oooooooor maybe hes not hitting his biceps with natural, growth inducing compounds such as pullups, backrows and tbar rows. like virt said, drop the curls.

I don't believe anyone looking for hypertrophy of the arms should drop arm work. It's not going to negatively impact. But telling someone to put more emphasis on barbell rowing and pull/chin-ups is a great suggestion.

I've been doing more chins than pullups as of lately and my back is improving. I'll switch back to pullups here in a few months. I do barbell rowing with a supinated grip now and feel a good contraction with my back but less with the posterior deltoids, so I included a bent over lateral raise.

I bet you he is curling ridiculous amounts every day trying to get his biceps to grow - thus the route of his problem

For me, best results is when I hit them hard with arm work after they've fully rested (a full week) and have no idea about what's gonna happen.

Don't overdo curls. Focus more on rows and pull-ups.

Not looking to make things complicated so I'll leave it at that. Though other factors may apply.

i found EZ curls were great as a variation of barbell curls, and they added a bit of extra mass to my arms in quite a short period of time.

Hi.

I've always had trouble with my biceps as well.

What I do, is I use lighter weight, and I try to fully contract the muscle at the top of the movement.

When lowering the weight, I lower it very slowly, getting a real good burn.

By using lighter weight and slower movement, I've been able to get better shape in the biceps.

I usually use a rep range of no more than 10, and do about 4 sets for every exercise.

Give it a try.

Good Luck!

You can't shape a muscle. That's your genetics.
