whey with or without water??
-
Thursday, January 06, 2005 8:23 AM
It says it should be taken with water, however, it doesn't taste very good and have now started to make a shake/smoothie with it that tastes better and has 15 more grams of protein... should I do this rather than water? I just take half a banana, 4 oz strawberry far free yogurt, some ice cubes, teaspoon of sugar, cup of milk and scoop of vanilla whey and blend it. It tastes really good and is about 35 grams of protein instead of the 20 it has with only water. What do you guys recommend?

That's fine dude. As long as you take it. You can eat it dry and still get the protein in the powder. Sometimes when I'm hungry I do the same thing for a workout drink. I haven't done the yogurt but I'm certainly not opposed to it. Plain yogurt is very healthy and I think packs a good amount of protein...plus it probably makes the shake very smooth. I take mine with water a couple of ice cubes and a bananna or a few strawberries. I'll probably try the yogurt next time I go groceries because I work out after work about 7 or 8 and sometimes I'm really hungry but I dont eat dinner until after my workout.
No, I'm not on steroids but thank you for asking.

If you don't mind the extra calories from the milk, etc....then by all means go for it, I always add extra stuff to my shakes. Shakes with just powder and water makes me want to vomit....

You guys must be drinking the wrong brand. I love my shakes. I've used ON and Nitrotech and they're both very tasty in chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. i've been wanting to try Isopure because they have more variety in flavors-pineapple orange and stuff like that.

I've tried plenty of brands of protein powders, none of them tasted good in water alone. Maybe because I don't like the taste of artificial sweetners...

ORIGINAL: BigJon i've been wanting to try Isopure because they have more variety in flavors-pineapple orange and stuff like that. i have 3lbs of isopure apple melon i will give to you. just imagine mixing kool-aid with milk. it smeels all good when you open the container then you mix it with water and and bamm. your blown chunks all over the place. oh and do you remember slimmer from the ghost busters. thats what it looks like. its a shame its so nasty. 50 grams of protein in a small shake. a friend at the gym was drinking alpine punch last night. the kind that comes premixed in the glass bottle. he says it taste good. im going to pick one of those up and try it since it's cheap. i think there's less protein in the bottle form though.

I was thinking about mixing it with orange juice and drinking it before work. How much do you want me to send for shipping. Hell, I'd give it a try.

I usually mix my whey with like 20 oz skim milk or so. This gives like 20 gms fast protein and 20 grams slow protein. I think it adds taste and texture while still keeping the calories functional. -Ch

well this morning didn't have time for breakfast so shoved a whole banana (medium-large size), 2 4 oz things of strawberry yogurt and the cup of milk and the whey. Tasted even better with some more banana and yogurt lol. Was about a cup and half of a drink though... seemed to fill me up well too. The yogurts were about 10g of protein, milk is like 8ish and 10 with the banana and then another 20 from the whey, so it's a good 40g of a protein. Was a nice shake. Anyone else have any good shakes they could share??? Just stuff to add to make it taste nice and even add some carbs and protein to it. I do rememebr reading a post on some protein shake ideas and other recipe stuff but couldn't find it when i looked. oh well.

Just a note...protein metabolism makes your kidneys work harder. If you're dehydrated on top of that, you coudl be looking at kidney strain. You should always get pleanty of liquid with your protein.

I always mix it with either orange juice or milk my usual shake: - 14 ounches of OJ - 4 ounces of frozen fruit - 1 and 1/2 scoops of ON's 100% whey vanilla - 1 egg (I was aphrehensive at first, but you dont even taste it)
