Hi Ian,

I myself had shoulder seperation, the injury first started when I was starting my football season. I didn't notice i heard it that bad until months later. After a couple months, I tried throwing a ball at full speed then my shoulder will dislocate. My shoulder kept coming to an extent that I couldn't strech in a wrong way or it will come out. I finally went a doctor, he urged me to take surgery right away. I had surgery when my school year ended, and he found out my injury was a ripped rotator cuff. The recovery process was good. I had 3 months of physical therapy and I had to wait 4 `1/2 months before i can weight lift again. What I suggest is that you go a doctor and ask them it's nesscary to lift weights again becuse you don't want to reinjure your shoulder of yours. Or maybe also trying going to physical therapy

i suggest that you have it checked first by a professional before you plan to go back to lifting weights. if your intention is to do intense weightlifting then you should be extra careful, mate.

Had the same thing happen to me when i was starting out 8 years ago. (noob knowledge+nasty ego=bad combination hehe). basically the barbell slipped while i was on the flat bench and all the weight came down on my right shoulder. it took 3 months of therapy and 6 months of embarrasment.

take care ian! hope your shoulder gets fully recovered!

Activity will assist in the recovery process.

Seperation in the ac joint is not pleasant by any means, I am familiar with the process.

You're still not long into the recovery process so just give it some time to settle down first, maybe another 2-4 weeks.
Then start a VERY low weight, VERY low intensity routine to work the area.

Especially go very easy on Bench Press, the scapula and the humerus are put under a lot of pressure during that movement.
May I suggest using a Smith Machine or a machine of some sort to work your pectorals without putting that pressure on the joint.

I still say do Bench Press, very cautiously and with very low weight as it will still assist in the recovery process but no more than 2 sets.

With a low intensity and cautious regime, you'll still find that you'll build mass, but in any case, your primary goal should be rehabilitation.
Get rehabilitation out of the way and you can start going intense with your routines again, sensibly of course.
