Can anyone explain the difference in between 100% whey protein(proprietary blend)and protein isolates and concentrates. I understand that the casein is a great night time protein because of absorption time but what should I look for in a daily shake? I am currently using GNC 100% whey protein. $32.00 for 43 servings @ 40g. and it actually tastes damn good....like chocolate quik. I went on proteincustomizer and really couldn' t figure out what is what. Thanks for any help.

When a company indicates proprietary blend it is merely hiding the percentages of what type of proteins they are using (i.e. Whey Protein Isolate, whey protein concentrate).

Something that is 100% Whey Protein is using a blend. Could be Concentrate, hydrolysate or isolate. Most likely it is concentrate (mostly).

For immediately following workout, you would want a quickly absorbing protein, typically isolate and concentrate. Hydrolysate is best used for immune compromised persons. For sustained protein, such as over night you would want slower absorbing (i.e. caseinate or a chicken breast) that moves slower through the digestive system.
