Many people practice it in different ways, but the general idea is to have a certain amount of days with little to no carbs (getting most of your carbs from veggies), then spending a certain amount of days "carb-loading", or eating a carb-rich diet to keep from going into ketosis, then repeating. It's been shown to be an effective way to cut weight while sparing muscle, it's worth giving a try if you're prepared for the severe lack of energy you'll be facing on the low-carb days.
