hi guys,
i was hoping someone could help me out. i've been experiencing a strange pain during training for some time. before continuing, it's worth noting that i have sought the advice of both my doctor and two competent physiotherapists - the only advice they could give was 'take it easy for a while'. one physiotherapist stipulated i might have a very small tear in my bicep, but it should feel fine in a few weeks, and that i hadn't done anything too traumatic. that was 2-3 months ago however, and the problem remains.
basically, i'm getting pain in an area that feels quite deep, just below the bicep peak / towards the elbow, during the following:
- top part of chinup / pullup movements (last 1/3 ROM)
- this is very painful and i can't do any kind of vertical pulling movement at the mo with full ROM
- eccentric portion of overhead presses, especially with a narrow grip
- this only hurts sometimes
- eccentric portion of bench press (intermittent)
- this only hurts on 'bad days'
- final part of ROM on reverse bar curls
- occasionally, day-to-day stuff hurts, like turning a door handle, but not very often
it's worth noting that deadlifts with a reasonably heavy weight (130-140 kilos) bring on no pain whatsoever
at no point do i recall any kind of traumatic injury - an 'ouch!' moment - it just started hurting one day. i've tried taking it easy - at one point i didnt train upper body for 2 months - but the problem doesn't seem to have gone away. currently, i do very light high-rep bicep work, and upper body stuff that doesn't hurt (this is limited mostly to bench, dips, fairly light dumbell rows, various dumbell shoulder exercises).
all told, this has been going on for about 6 months. so i guess, since i didn't have much joy with doctors / physiotherapists, i was looking for the following..
- has anyone else had this problem?
- does anyone have any idea what i've done? tendonitis? bicep tear?
- does anyone have any advice or suggestions? should i carry on working around the pain if possible? should i totally lay off? will any supplements speed up my recovery? (i get lots of fish oils, flax oil etc.. but that's about it).
i'm getting pretty frustrated, so i'd love to hear from anyone with any advice.
thanks for reading, and i look forward to any words of wisdom or encouragement that you may be able to offer.
jim
