weight clubs and t-shirts/club names
-

Ok this all started in the training forums, so I thought I would go ahead and do this in the suggestion forums. I would like to suggest weight clubs people can achieve, as well as a personalized t-shirt and club name underneath their forum name. First the actual club part, There will be clubs for both men and women respectively. For example the mens would go something like: 800 pound club 900 pound club 1000 pound club 1100 1200 etc... you get the idea. A combination of the big 3. Bench/squats/deads. I started at 800 because its high enough to be achievable but still have to work hard enough for. The idea is to motivate, not to alienate. There can be a whole sub section in the training forums perhaps, and there will need to be videos submitted to prove your lifts. I would like to see 2-3 judges appointed to view submissions to give it an ultimate thumbs up or thumbs down but would be viewable by everyone. I would also like to see a general set of rules for each lift. Squats. Have to at least go parallel, No smith machines, no spotter help at all Bench. Has to touch your chest, Has to lock out, no spotter help at all Deadlifts. Has to lock out, no straps. -Belts and chalk allowed for lifts, no straps, suits ______________________________________________________________________ So when someone achieves a club male/female they will receive a t-shirt with the DBB logo as well as there forum name somewhere and the club they are in. *I will be more then happy to design the t-shirts. Along with the shirt, we can get a little title underneath our forum names. This can be beneficial in many ways. 1.) Motivation, I can see a lot of people striving to reach a club goal. We can get a lot of friendly competitions going on here. 2.) It will be good for the site. Having more traffic, more regulars, more activity 3.) I think this can help DBB.com get more well known, which again leads to more traffic/activity/regulars. 4.) I think it will raise the over all moral of the existing regulars as well. Well there is my suggestion. I think it could turn out really great if given the chance, give people a sense of accomplishment and achievment while being on these forums. I may have missed some things I wanted to say, but for the most part I think I got it. I would also like to say, If hardway reads this can you go ahead and post those numbers you came up for the female members? Support this guys!!!!

I'm definately throwin my support in. Think it sounds like a great idea.

i like it. i think at the very least we could get something to go under our names here on the forums. someone has to put up money for the shirts which is not always the easiest thing to do.
No the leg press is not the same as doing squats.

I like it too, agree with dmobley, getting the shirts going might hold up the whole process. I am still conflicted about my numbers... women are smaller... so maybe it should be the first list of numbers I threw up there. I am going to pm linda and ripped, to get their input before I leave today. i will post the numbers as soon as I get a reply... It is not cool that I am the "voice/knowledge base" for the ladies right now, doesn't feel right. Yet another reason to have a ladies side, it might attract a few new yet serious members of my gender.

the t-shirt thing would be one of the last things to deal with. I think we could get a donation thing going or maybe have the option of paying for your t-shirt to rep your accomplishment and dbb.com... theres a few things we can do, but there are some more important things i think we need to get steady first.

I like the Idea. Good thing for new members to strive for. What about Age things? I think it would be harder for some of the younger members to get NEAR 800 pound club. Like Me, Connely, Andy, Kingyoto.. etc..

that is true... like I said, the whole goal is to motivate, not to alienate anyone. I was thinking that as long as your under...maybe 18 years old you have the option of entering the... jr. clubs? maybe something like 500,600,700 clubs. If your under 18 and can go higher, that wont be a problem. But no one under 18 can try to join any of these to make it fair. What do you think? 500 seems like a good number to start at for younger guys, 400 just seems way to easy.

Great idea Nmoney34. I think we can get something like this started... but not exactly like you have it laid out. Asking users to post videos and/or telling people they need to lift a certain weight (and prove it) to join a club on DB could easily lead to injuries. If they got injured, they could very well sue DB as well as any of you members. The risk is way to high to ask people to prove how much they can lift in order to join a club on an online forum. Regarding t-shirts, unless you guys are willing to spend the cash on them Marc and I can't afford it. We can, however, offer new titles below your names. If you really want to do the shirt thing you could design the shirts and post them on a site like cafepress.com. Then, if a member joins the 800lb club they could order the shirt from cafepress. I think it's about $12 or so if I remember correctly. But, I like the idea of having certain clubs on DB and having a title below your name show which club you're currently in. I did two things just now, I added a new section to everyone's profile so you can list your benchpress, squat, and deadlift maxes. I also created a couple "clubs" on DB. If you join one of these "club's" you'll instantly be able to have the new title shown under your name. You can view the clubs or join them by clicking on the "Member List" icon at the top of the forum and then choose "User Groups." I can add more groups like a group for women and a "silver" group for some of our older members as well. I just need to know what weights you guys think those groups should be. If you want things re-nammed from the way I did it let me know and that can be done. I can also set requirements that must be met before people can join a group (such as total number of posts). This way, new members who no one knows yet can't just come in and join a group. I could set the minimum number of posts to 500 or so and that way only members with 500 posts or more can join groups. If you guys like I can create another sub-forum somewhere where you can talk more about the club or for posting your lifts/progress... although I guess that could always go under the training jounal section. Another thought too... I only changed your title if you joined a certain group. If you're in the 800lb club your new title will say "DB's 800lb club" instead of something like "Senior Member." But, we have the ability to change the star image under your name for a certain group. So, another idea is to have someone desing a new image for each group. If we did it this way, instead of having 4 out of 5 stars, you could have a nice little logo that says something like "800lbs" with a nice deisgn around it. Anyways, I just rambled off a bunch of things. Check out what I did and offer some new input on what you'd like to see changed and how we can make it better.

Couldnt there be some kind of disclaimer? One of the other reasons to have judges, is to watch the persons form. Theres really no other way to tell who can lift what, because anyone can come in and say Hey I squat 500. or maybe they can really squat 500 but its on a smith machine and they dont go parallel. The critiqueing can be good on many levels, not just to make it into a club. We need more people posting videos anyway, it gives people something to watch and something to refrence. like instead of saying hey go check out this video on youtube, we can just say go check out smoundzou's bench video or briheads squat video. I was really hoping this would go through because it will make people back up what they say...and earn respect.

Also if our judging in stringent, people will know better tahn to try to opst something with terrifying form. I'm waiting on replies still from Linda and ripped, I will post the numbers soon.

I understand where kris is coming from ..... If he (Dbb.com) endorses a club and some kid hurts himself seriously....DBB.com could be held liable for enticing the guy with Titles and t-shirts. Maybe we could have a Verified tab next to the clubs name for people who have submitted proof (IE .Video)....But it wouldn't be a requirement to join the club. I don't know....maybe something like that could work..... BTW where do I get my 2000 pound club shirt at.....BWaaGHaaHaa JUst kidding.... BTW the Cafepress Idea is a good one Kris....

just for my own benefit how about a post count at like 400 instead of 500. or since there are a few members that have been here a while but do not post as much maybe make it based on how long you have been a member.?

I like that idea for the video's, Im not totally opposed to it. My plan was to try to get coldfire to come back and stick around if anything to judge peoples forms. But I was thinking of getting coldfire, smoundzou and someone else to critique and judge video's, like marc. because they all have plenty of experience and knowledge in this sport. I also do understand where your coming from, but people do stupid **** everyday in the gym. I think that if there was a disclaimer, and judges to judge criteria and form...it would make people think twice before trying to do something they shouldnt. but then really what is the point of having these clubs if any joe shmoe can come in and say oh yeah Im in the 1500 club, but they really arent. I guess they are only truely lieing to themselves, but thats just a waste of this system... A lot of people just go to the gym and lift, they lose track of their goals because they dont have anyone else, or maybe they need that extra bit of focus. Then they just end up quiting, stalling, upset about gains...whatever the reason. This is a way to encourage people to keep pushing themselves, to keep bettering themselves. I am really glad we have quite a few people pitching idea's! I appreciate the support, and the t-shirt idea is nice. I would sport a t-shirt for 13 bucks. Ill even post a few designs I come up with.

I get around it doing other less back stressed lifts. Bulkingup...Cane Club....Funny Idea, but i like it... "Okay well the avg female based on a wide variety of women I have trained of varied ages, sizes and strengths and levels........ I think women can easily get 100lb deads, 100lb squats and 100lb on bench with work so 300lb club would be a good starting number - attainable. I know I have hit maxes of 205 for squat, dead but never got beyond 115 or so on my bench but I can see someone getting 135 or more easy so a 400lb, and maybe 500lb would fly too.......not attainable for everyone but some can get this. Am I answering you along the lines of your questions, just to make sure I understood and replied accordingly....... Linda" Ok that is a copy of Italienangel's pm to me about what is attainable for the ladies... SO I am going to go back to my original computations.. and think stating numbers should just drop down to just for reference my original computations 300 lbs and go up at 75 lbs increments... So I referenced the strength standards at exrx http://www.exrx.net/Testing/WeightLifting/StrengthStandards.html it looks like 800 lbs is equal to a combined percentage of 430% (body weight) for a man weighing in at 181 pounds (778 pounds actually) I thought that was a fair weight not a big guy but not a very small one... and that is using the "intermediate" standard. the intermediate standard ranges a little from body weight to body weight if we are using percentages, but on average that total percentage of 430% is fairly in the middle. so for a woman using the intermediate standard her combined percentages of the three lifts is 285 % of body weight. I think the base weight for computation should be 132 pounds, mainly because the majority of women lifters who stumble upon this site are not interested in hitting the heavy weight category... Although I don't know if that is fair, really, but I am thinking so. That would put our starting value at 376, or if we round up the 400 lbs club. and I guess since our values are roughly 1/3 less overall... ladies should go up in 75 lbs increments. 300 375 450 525 600 i guess I can get in a club even with the front squat!

Jane, you Squat 145, and deadlift 120? That's already 265. As long as you bench 35 pounds you're in.

So how is that idea about having something to distinguish whether you posted video's or not going? Since there is legal concern, how about getting a critique my lift section where we can post nothing but lifts and get community feedback? I suggested this awhile back, we have a critique my training and body, we should also have a critique my lifts section. any thoughts on that one?

It's a combination of Deadlift, Bench, and Squat. How else do you think people get to the 1200 pound club?

Nm0ney34 So how is that idea about having something to distinguish whether you posted video's or not going? Since there is legal concern, how about getting a critique my lift section where we can post nothing but lifts and get community feedback? I suggested this awhile back, we have a critique my training and body, we should also have a critique my lifts section. any thoughts on that one? What about a minimum age requirement. Not that I want to exclude the youngins, but could that be a help around the legal problems? 18 and older only... What about a terms and agreement waver for those of us who would post vids... similar to paying bills via internet or something along those line... I indemnify and hold DBB harmless, in the event of injury, associated with any lifting or videos posted... Although after the lift has been completed, it is too late... What about a use and terms agreement to log into that section of the site, with an age requirement to post in the critique the videos section.... It is a pretty moot point with out verification... or at least a verified option. I have always thought a critique my lifts section is a very good idea. Yeah, Jane with those start values your a club member. I think they are a little low to start (don't take offence), but starting there I think is encourageing to any new ladies who might stop by, and bouye them up a bit. Give them some incentive to try and lift a bit bigger.
