up or down? - Friday, July 31, 2009 11:14 AM ( #1 )
so do u guys tend to look up or down when u squat?

i know starting strength recommends to look down i order to utilize more hip drive but that just feels awkward for me. i have always just focused on one point a little higher then eye level and i get plenty of hip drive

Down.

I find something to stare at in the mirror at a downward angle.

I look up..if i look down i find the bar a little harder to hold on my back. When you look up the bar is kind of secured between the back of your neck and your traps.

I keep my head looking straight ahead.  I usually stare myself in the eyes (there's a mirror in front of me).  I think it's pretty dangerous to keep your head down.

I tend to look down, though I don't always recommend it because depended upon the torso it can lead to excessive leaning.

drop a weight about 6-7 feet in front of where your squating.

Take a tennis ball and stick it under your chin, focus your eyes on that weight as you descend down and back up.

That should give you a good idea of what you should be doing.
