ugh...How am i doing? - Monday, December 15, 2008 1:27 PM ( #1 )
ok so i have been bulking for i guess 3 months i would say, doing the mark rippetoes starting strength routine.  this is what my last critique my physique post looked like
http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/umm-tell-me-what-you-think-i-guess-m418997.aspx

Now i have gained 10lbs (160)   and my number have gone up

bench was 155lbs for 5 reps  and is now 180 for 5 reps
squats which was horrible was 5 reps of 100lbs is now 5 reps of 180lbs also
and deadlift idk what it was but is now 5 reps of 210.

Now i kno these pictures are HORRIBLE but im hoping they are good enough for you guys to get an idea if my bulking is coming along good or bad.

the second to last picture is just resting with no flex.

the last picture i just added now after benching deadlifting and squating

i think you are doing good for 3 months training
there is bulk visible in your chest
if you are not getting size in arms you should keep going
you will get size increase weight in arms workout.

Can ne on tell me if that indentation on the sides of my pecs will go away? Its really annoying and im benching 205 now and thought that it would have filled out by now to give me that rounded out pectoral muscle.

ne more critiques would be appreciated.

Try doing more incline bench work to fill that spot up.

As far as a critique goes, keep at it, you're getting there.

Well then we will just have to call you "small indentation on lower pecs boy". Yet is right... you need to hit be hitting all areas of your chest or it's simply not going to fill in.  Good luck!

first of all you can add incline bench as an assistance exercise in SS. He goes into in the book. Its the same way you can add in dips for extra chest work as well. if you want you you can add in 2-3 sets at the end of your normal workout.

I personally started doing 3 assistance exercises after each workout. 2 sets each. Mine are usually pullups/rows, dips/incline, ab's.

Just to give you an idea of what you can do. You want to progress with these just like your normal lifts, remember there is many ways to progress then just adding weight. You can add reps for example.

Second, How much progress and bulk are you expecting to go up in 3 months? 3 months is a very short time, and infact I think you have made some very good progress.

You can see a noticable change in your body, clearly see you have more muscle mass. And your lifts shot up. think of it like this, your squat went up 80 lb's. in just 3 months. imagine if it shot up 80 pounds for each 3 months. Your squat would have gone up 320 lb's in one year...now thats a little unrealistic...but Ihope your getting what I am trying to say. Your squat will still go up and everything else for that manner.

3 months, is enough to see some change but dont get discouraged because you dont look super amazing in 3 months. It takes time. Relax and remember that.

also remember that if your bulking up and gaining weight you will gradually need to keep raising your calorie intake to keep up with building muscle.

do you think doing barbell curls at the end of  every workout B (every 4 days basically) is too much for biceps while on Starting strength? This is the only direct bicep work i can do since my pullup bar is outside and its just a little bit too chilly for me out there. Same for triceps on workout A

Pull-ups would be best but I guess you could replace them with barbell curls until it gets warmer. lol or just get your butt outside and pound out a few sets. Your body will thank you.

ok well since you said its ok to do some assstance work i did this today for workout A. Tell me if its ok or too much.

i did bench press 180 3 sets of 5
inclince bench 145 3 sets of 5
tricep dips 3 sets of 10
deadlift 220 1 set of 5
calf raises 3 sets of 10
leg press 3 sets 0f 5

im not squating for a while because i used bad form for about 3 months and im waiting for my back to heal so im just doing leg presses until then

also i finally got to my schools gym and im so glad i made the move from my house to the schools weight room. What a difference in intensity. WOW

I would squat with lighter weight. Build your core so your back will be stronger.
