its difficult to achieve overload with kick backs, as you can start swinging the weight which takes the pressure off your triceps.

I'd agree, give close grip benches or tricep extensions a go, either standing or on the end of a bench

Agreed, although if every movement is done with control, you'll overload it easily.

Most guys in my observations aren't nearly as strong as they think if they base their thoughts on the weights they are "lifting."

A guy doing bicep curls who uses his upper body to gain momentum to swing the weight up and then lets it drop is doing nothing more than soothing his ego.  If you gave the same guy a dumbbell half that weight, I'll wager, took away the body English, and told him he couldn't lift the weight any faster than 2 seconds up and 3-4 seconds down, his ego would be severely pummeled.

Applicable to any exercise.  Control is the name of the game, not just the heaviness of the weight.

just a comment, about the swing, well depending on teh swing, now is it not true that in doing that it allows you to lift more, there for building more muscle, its a type of cheat taht professional bodybuilders use. and is proven it works, the only thing is, if ur new you shouldnt, u should stick to strict form, as you could hurt yourself

ya skull crushers are pretty good, dips work real good, use weighted if you have to to minimize your reps, look into bench dips too, adds a lil chest into the mix
