track and field in this case a field event. - Saturday, April 19, 2008 6:36 PM ( #1 )
I was wondering what yall suggest for someone who wants to increase there distance for shot-put and discuss. I want to mostly focus on hypertrohy for my workouts but I would like to use exercises that will help my power and explosiveness for shout-put and discuss.

Clean and jerk will help you a lot. So will db snatch. Olympic lifting is king for explosive power.

Olympic lifts are key.  Of course you want to follow correct progression in your training etc...
There is also some football specific equipment (generally used by linemen) to teach/strengthen the 'jamming' motion.  I think they call them 'jammers'.  If you have access, stand in power position, drive from the legs - hips- torso and then extend the arm.  The key is specificity to the throwing motion.  The very best thing you can do is.........throw (using correct technique and timing).  Following correct progression and gradually increasing the number of throws each week until the last few weeks of season.  Then, back off in the number of throws but maintain the intensity.
I've always felt it was not up to anyone else
to make me give my best.
