strange injury

I was wondering if anyone has had this problem before. I just started back into weight training after about a 10 year absence. I have been training now for about 3 months and every thing was going great. Now here’s the problem. After doing flat bench I am getting a pain that goes down the right side of my neck through the right shoulder and across the top of the right pec. After I let go of the bar. As long as I am doing bench everything is fine. I also get the same pain from doing front shoulder raises however this time it happens as soon as I lift. Just thought this was kind of strange and was wondering if anyone else had this problem before and how did you fix it. Thanks in advance for your help.

Ya I will go see the doc. I do however live in a small town in Northern Alberta. I think I will have better luck letting the dog lick my face then going to the doc here.

Is it possible that it is your trap causing the pain? Apply some pressure to your right trap by pressing against the point with your left thumb and move your right arm around and see if the pain becomes less while you're doing this. I'm asking because I thought that your post was odd until I had a workout tonight and experienced what sounds like the same thing - no pain when working out but when I stop. Just curious.

That seems to be it. I don't work trap's all that much. Might have pulled it when doing front shoulder raises and never gave it time to heal. I think maybe instead of taking time off I will just do a lot less weight when working shoulders and chest for a bit. Thanks a bunch

Ugh, maybe it's a shoulder injury brewing? Don't waste time seeing a doctor on this one. A blown shoulder will blow your lifting career out of the water ASAP.

The very same night that I experienced my "injury" I rubbed some deep heat on the problem area which provided some temporary relief. The next day I still felt the same (but lesser) pain and continued with my workout as normal. The day after that I had pain in the morning, but afternoon no pain at all. Note: I didn't have a workout tonight at all. My advice, see if the pain continues. If it does, either tone down your workouts or see an MD. If not then it's probably the same as me - like a pinched nerve or muscle or something. Work on your form. Edit <- I doub't that it's a shoulder injury - I've dislocated both shoulders and I definately know what a shoulder injury feels like. This is waaaaaaaay different.
