Read below....In particular, the last paragraph. So folks on SSRI's can get more jacked up than those who are not :)? Seriously, though...i am not making light of anyone who takes SSRI's as i am one who did, and it was very tough to come off them...anyway, i guess i just didnt fully understand the staement made in the second paragraph. can anyone shed light on it? Other than, it is really hard to come off these drugs due to many reasons, i just didnt understand the relation between steroids and serotonin i guess. When we know that Ecstasy withdrawal can plunge users into the depths of depression we should not be the least bit surprised to learn that any of its chemical cohorts can do the same in withdrawal. All are serotonergic agents -Ecstasy, Prozac, LSD, Zoloft, PCP, Paxil, etc. - with similar effects due to the increase of serotonin and decrease of serotonin metabolism that they produce. When one understands the steroid effect brought on by an increase in serotonin [one 30mg dose of Prozac DOUBLES cortisol levels!], it is not difficult to see that the initiation of use of these drugs should be very gradual as should the discontinuation be a very gradual process.

Not positive, but i think that when your body is forced to create more or is given more serotonin synthetically your endocrine system (hormones) makes more corisol, like ying and yang. So as you supplement your serotonin your body "forgets" how to make it on its own but is still making cortisol. When you stop taking serotonin (especially after long usage period) you will experience the severe instable mood caused by excess cortisol. There are of course various other hormones and parts of the body involved, but this is the gist.

I really haven't looked into the effects much, i just know the above from my psyhce class, but anything that messes with your brain, your hormones levels especially mood wise isn't worth any gains unless you are going to go pro. i couldn't imagine them being better for your body than plain steroids.

Excess cortisol would put the body into a CATABOLIC rather than ANABOLIC state. So in essence, you may see muscle loss.

How much would taking a 25mg dose of Prozac affect me do you think? What does doubled cortisol levels result in?

What does doubled cortisol levels result in? to be honest with you, poison, i do not think taking any dose of an antidepressant/anti anxiety drug will affect your muscle growth (negatively or positively)...unless you are bodybuilding for a living, NO WORRIES in my humble opinion. I just posted this,to understand the article better...ive researched some more and there is no eveidence saying that you will gain or lose muscle while taking SSRI's
