Hi everyone, i am just starting out and wanting to enter a figure body comp ( in the future) and was wondering what the first step is. i have been told by quite a few people to drop as much body fat as possible before i even think about adding muscle. does this sound correct? i would also like a general body weight i should aim for before i can start lifting properly. I am about 5"8. any info would be great.
thanks!

I was told that in order to lose fat efficiently you needed to gain muscle first as this would increase your metabolism and burn more energy. Linda will be very helpful on this topic and im sure she will respond very soon Smile

It depends on your current percentage of fat. It is much easier to build muscle, and your new muscle will increase your metabolism and make lossing fat easier in the long run. However if you are really over weight getting rid of a good bit of eccess baggage should be your first step. But your goal would not be to get to show lean, before you start building muscle. But I lift for practical strength, so this is my understanding, not my practice.

cardo+diet+weights

if you just do cardio, you'll lose muscle then doing it with cardio+muscle. Also more muscle burns more fat!
