speed bag or heavy bag? - Saturday, March 19, 2005 2:02 PM ( #1 )
i was wondering whether i should buy a speed bag or heavy bag. speed bag cost from 35-50. and a heavy bag costs about 50-100( fully assembled ones). i was also thinking about buying a double end bag but there isn't enough space to that in my house. well thanks in advance.

Depends on what you want...

Heavy bag will increase your punching power over time

speed bag will increase the speed of your punching over time

dont know what you mean by a double end bag

i guess i wanna increase both my speed and my ounching power. but well i m already preety fast but my punching power, well wouldn't say it sucks but well it's average. speed though i m really really fast. but all the same i wouldn't mind getting faster or increasing punch power. well guess have to make up my mind.

andy a double end bag is the one that u punch and it comes bak with the "snap". it's more like a hand and eye coordination equipment. does the speed bag increase your speed a lot though?

If your only getting 1 get a heavy bag. Speed bag is like a add on from that.

bklynboy- The only thing better than a heavy bag is a free heavy bag- I have one, no one uses it, you're more than welcome to it. PM me if you're interested.

No problem. Have fun with the double end ball, I used to have one of those too- They're harder to get used to than a speed bag when it comes to technique and timing, but once you get the rhythm down, it's a blast.

your parents or your neighbors wouldnt be too happy with a speed bag anyways, its a horrible idea for home use.. Your whole house would be bouncing like the soul plane.

Comes down to personal preference I reckon.

I'm far too uncoordinated to work a speed bag, so I would go for a full length bag (they go for AUD$200 here) that allows me to kick and punch.

Speed is something that I feel I can pick up with practice and repetition.

alright, a speed bag, though very, very noisy, will definatly make your punches faster and a little more accurate. its mainly used to help get a rythem for punching down, and quickness from one hit to the other while still being able to block your face with the opposing hand.

a heavy bag will definatly increase the power of your punch over time, but it isnt intended to be hit hard consistently. it too is mainly used for being able to make correct contact with a punch, while being able to "dance" around your opponent and still defend yourself. remember, the only way a hard power punch is going to win a fight is if you make full, precise contact to your opponent.

a double end bag is excellent for learning precision and defense. i suggest if you are going in to this for a sport or just fun, get them all and screw if someone gets mad at you for making too much noise during the day. its day time.

Speed bags are incredibly challenging. If your going to buy a heavy bag, I suggest u "box" the bag at a high intensity for Five 2 minute rounds. Speed bags will build up ur shoulders and can get fustrating but once you get into it, ur goina give ur arms the workout of a lifetime. I would start with heavy bag but def look into a speedbag, anyone can hit a heavy bag but its pretty intimidating seeing some guy work the speed bag. alot of people dont realize how tricky it really is

Its called a boxers break.  Basically it happens when you punch something that wont get hurt, like a wall for instance.  I have a step-brother that did that, its pretty common.  It usually happens from stupidity...lol not sayin that you did something stupid.

Also isnt a double end bag usually called a sway bag or is that just me.?
i am constantly learning
i will enter a natural bb comp
i will come in a close to 200 lbs as possible
i am current around 210
