Hi, I am unsure of your whole routine, but the best thing to do is ensure you are getting a steady amount of protein throughout the day which will mean eating between 5-7 meals. You can do alot with whey protein shakes but its important to combine these with "real foods". Not eating much meat isn't usually a problem either. You can get your protein from other sources such as nuts and cheese, although your friend is correct in saying tuna is a good source too. There is no right or wrong time to consume this, although within an hour after working out is a great time to get a good amount of protein inside you. Don't forget to add some carbohydrates to your post-workout meal aswell!
