Well it burns calories and its good for your heart, so i guess its a different form of cardio but it def is.  Its great excersize as well, becuase it works out your core muscles.  I never tried it, but it sounds fun.

I used to be a skater.  I quit because I kept on breaking my ankles.  It can be considered cardio, it depends.  Do you just ride around or do you do stairs and handrails?  I did both.  I would've just done stairs and handrails, but my friends and I had to ride our boards to get there.

But on the down side... skatboarding doesn't work your legs evenly.

People do switch tricks and all, but most people don't push switch.

I started skating in the summer before I started the 7th grade and I quit before the seond semester of the 10th grade.  Before my "run" with skateboarding was done, I accomplished the following feats:

kickflip 10 stairs
fs 180 flip 7 stairs
360 flip 6 stairs
hardflip 6 stairs
boardslide 8 stair rail
fs boardslide 8 stair rail
noseslide 8 stair rail
bs 180 hardflip flat ground (believe me, it's alot harder than it sounds)

I was a slow learner.  I skated for 6 months before I landed my first kickflip.  Keep practicing your switch!  As time goes on, getting better at switch will get harder and harder!

I was never good, I only sprained my ankle once, I think i have weak legs and poor sense of balance, and a fear of injuring myself... I have a friend who is awesome, i know its easy but ollie over a sofa, over people lying down, one time his mom bought him a deck and my friend said do a 540 flip, and he landed it first try never having attempted it before, he won a few local comps, and some of his friends skated on teams, and some were sponsored by big companies

I doubt that has a lot to do with skating in my personal opinion, no one has perfect symmetry, and we all have the occasional 1/4"-1" differences here and there
