shoulder injuries/RC

Hi all Just wondering if any of you have had pain in shoulder before? I did some DB shoulder presses around a week ago and have some pain in the shoulder. It's not constant just when i raise the arm above head and when i do lateral raises? Any ideas? I'm hoping this isn't an RC injury and just a pull or something? Cheers

Google rotator cuff exercises and lay off the presses till its better...strengthening the rotator cuff should help alot and remember most people over stress their shoulders by doing lots of shoulder work and chest work....most chest work involves the shoulders to a great degree

Ok thanks Was just worried that this could be serious. If it was a cartilage tear or a joint problem would i know about it if you get me? Hopefully this is just a muscle strain, more at the front of the joint cheers

i mean not really ud have to go to dr to get x-ray to really know whats going on, and i mean if its not hurting super bad then its probably going to be ok, just do less presses and make sure you really stretch/ work the RC

chris_w1987 Ok thanks Was just worried that this could be serious. If it was a cartilage tear or a joint problem would i know about it if you get me? Hopefully this is just a muscle strain, more at the front of the joint cheers comin from someone that had his rotator cuff repaired treat this seriously. my injury was not weightlifting related, but did not lift or do any serious type after the injury and at least a year after surgery. like Creation said only way to tell is get an MRI done. i'm pretty sure thats what he meant to have the doctor do. an xray wont show what kind of cartilage/muscle tears you may have goin on vs an mri. if you have insurance go see a doc. if not, well sucks to be you.

Rotator cuff injuries are most common when the pushing muscles are more active than their antagonists (the pulling muscles). It can also be caused when the external rotators are weaker than the internal rotators, or it might be vice versa with the second one, I'm not sure. Work on your barbell rows, chins, cuban rotations, poor man shoulder horns, and presses can help too. When you press overhead the shoulder is rotated upright making it anterior delt dominant, but it also works the rotator cuff muscles - the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis to a good extent. Eliminate bench presses for the time being as they can significantly worsen the condition.
