 shin splints

I went for a run today and the front of my left leg started hurting so bad so the point i could barely move my foot up and down.

I just got some new brook cross training shoes since they have more support, however i have literaly no arch what so ever. Could this be the sole cause of my shin splints, if so would getting some better arch support inserts fix or help the problem?

It would help strengthing your front shin muscle would fix the problem.
 
Theres lots of excersises around you could find online such as heel walks.

A few causes.

  1. Wear running shoes - Cross trainers are not made for forward motion and can screw you up
  2. stretch your calves, its possible they are too tight
  3. work your soleus', they are probably too weak

i just double checked my shoes are acutally Trail running then normal running shoes just dont feel comfy.

Trail runners are not good for running on asphalt.  They tend to wear uneven, especially if you have taken them out in the trails.

How many pairs did you try on before you settled?  Did you go to a running store or a generic sports store where they work on commission and know nothing about biomechanics and proper shoe fitting?.

hi,

i've suffered from the dreaded splints for a long time been to many physio's and really what cause its is the muscle rubbing again the shins,

comes from a weakness cause at some point, like a sprained ankle and the foot is slightly out of sink


way i find to lessen pain is to sit on my hunkers, with instep of foot flat against the floor, like a karate dude does, do this at after exercises for about 90-120 seconds
