sets to reps - Tuesday, July 01, 2008 9:59 PM
ok I just started a gym about 4 weeks ago, I`ve been doing 3 sets of 20 reps on everything I`ve been doing, I`ve been doing amounts of weight I can tolerate for the 20 reps, should I increase the weight and use less reps or should I continue 20 reps and just increase the weight gradually keeping the 20 reps?

I`m looking to build up more muscle not just getting cut.

I`m on a low fat diet

I`m using creatine and whey protein.

any suggestions whould be great

I`ve been working back shoulders biceps triceps abs and chest all machine no free weights

Look for HST. It is a 3 day full body workout that I am currently doing, but my own modified version...

I don't think HST is a good idea when you've only been lifting for 4 weeks.

Look at Rippetoe's routine if you want something that'll serve you pretty well. It doesn't seem like a lot at all, but when your weights begin to increase, it'll be harder and harder.

rippetoes would be good too but HST would be fine for a beginner. its not an advanced routine by any means

Check out these 2 books:

"the new rules of lifting"
"Starting strength"

That's all the info you need.

well if ur trying to get bigger 20 reps is not the path to take.

keep the weight high and the reps low plus extra calories which will equal hypertrophy and strength gains
Current: 18, 5'11", 194

bench:290 squat:405 deadlift:420
