I don't think taking melatonin for a short time interferes with your natural production, I know I can take it one night, and 24 hours later I will get very sleepy, so I assume that means my natural production has kicked in.

3mg is not harmful, there is no toxic level of melatonin. It's just 1mg is usually just as effective as 3mg or more. The only concern I'd have is a possible reduction in leutenizing hormone, but that's mostly theoretical.

RE: Concerned about taking melatonin (mtodag)

thanks for your help, i will buy a 1mg bottle then.but u said it could shot down your natural melatonin that would be horrible! There are 3mg out there which are much cheaper, but u said it would be harmful so i gonna buy the 1mg ,is that right?

RE: Concerned about taking melatonin (Powerhaus)

Taking melatonin as you describe should not pose any risk to your health. Melatonin has been extensively tested for safety, and there does not appear to be a "toxic" level.

However, there is some evidence that melatonin will temoporarially reduce your body's production of leutenizing hormone (the hormone that stimulates testosterone production in men). In fact, melatonin is being investigated as a possible form of birth control in women because of its dampening effects on sex hormone production. For this reason, I think taking the lowest effective amount is wise if you are looking to gain muscle. As little as 1mg can be effective.

Personally, melatonin is my favoirte sleep aid, especially when I need to readjust to a healthy sleep schedule. I typically only have to take it for a couple of nights, then I find myself getting quite sleepy 24 hours later.

Avoid light after taking melatonin, light causes your body to break it down.

Concerned about taking melatonin (mtodag)

 Hi all!
First of all,sorry!
I could nmnot visit the board lately i had so much stress in schools and sports...........
Now i got a question.I will be working in shifts in holidays, where i have to get up at 5 am most of the time and work till 2pm.
I know that i won´t be able to get to sleep before 1am,because thats my rythm in holidays and I want to have fun at that time.
I tryed valerian root ,st jonhs worth and every other natural thing. Now i wanted to try melatonin, i only want to take it when i have
to get up at different times, like i said when i have morning shift. So i will take melatonin at 7 or 8 pm and sleep 9 hours till 5.
Is it to dangerous for me to take melatonin now and then?
