I'll give that a shot next time.

Thanks,
D

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (t.j.wes)

I do basicallky what you posted.I keep water intake high all the time ,then about 8PM the night before my show I stop all water/fluid intake. My body just excretes water like crazy.I used to drink a certain amount then cut it in half two days out ,then in half again ,then stop completely the night before the show. Now I think that keeping water intake higher until the night before the contest to work better for me.I do have two cups of coffee in the AM on the day of the show and this seems to have a diuretic effect on me as well.I wish I could offer more to you but you pretty much nailed it as far as I`m concerned !

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (djduhon)

 TJ,

What do you do differently that you think is better and why? I'm interested in trying anything that might bleed off that extra little bit if you have some input.

Thanks,
D

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (t.j.wes)

ORIGINAL: djduhon

The dehydrated status is set up and targeted just for the day of the competition. People do it different ways but the way I do it is to drink at least 2 gallons a day for the full week prior, about 4 gallons the day prior and then the night before the competition, about 15 hours from the stage apperance, stop drinking all together. This places the body in overdrive, pumping fluids through (trust me you pee every 20 minutes), by the time your body makes the adjustment to try to retain fluids its too late it's already flushed itself dry. This, I believe is the easiest and healthiest way to draw the fluid out, your body is only in that dehydrated state for about 14 or so hours.

D

Good advice! This is very similar to what I do to prep.Restricting water in an effort to increase cuts triggers the hormone Aldosterone which actually makes you retain fluid.drink a lot to excrete a lot!

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (Chazz540)

Aw cool! No the thing with competing... It's not something I just want, it's a 12 month goal to try it out... If I like it who knows, maybe I'll be in it for the rush.

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (djduhon)

When you say that showing up shredded is more important than having bulk... uhhh that's kind of hard to say. How bulky? How shredded? Is really a matter of opinion that's what makes this sport so awfully painful. Kill yourself for 8-12 months, diet hard for 12-16 weeks, think you look the best in your class and WHAM 3rd place. If you come into this sport to compete against others your in the wrong sport (IMO); you need to compete against yourself or go play tidly winks.

Now to answer the intent of your question... I would rather go into a competition 3 lbs lighter losing a lb of muscle and 2 lbs of fat. I will actually look much bigger here than at the heavier weight.

The whole tanning thing has to do with standing under the lights. Bright lights will make a white boy like myself look like a beacon of smoothness. So we tan, paint on Pro-Tan, rub in Dream-Tan and WHAMMO -- instantanious white boy beacon becomes that ripped to shreds phenom that we killed ourselves to look like for the last 12 weeks. Tan won't cover up fat, won't make you look better, all it does is show's off the package better.

D

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (Chazz540)

In a lot of competitions, it's not so much bulk but being ripped? yes/no?

And the tanning, that helps with illusion because it gives depth perception to all the muscle 'creases'?

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (Leslie)

ORIGINAL: mda1125

Yes. Which can be dangerous if you mess with the electrolyte levels too much and aren't educated in such.

Also, the super dark un-natural tans and lighting help really make them look ripped beyond belief. Not that they aren't ripped but the whole photogenic aspect to it makes it unreal.

Dehydrating and tanning are some techniques, yes. While contest day BB's are ripped, bodybuilding does relys on illusion as well.

RE: dehydrating and cutting up (djduhon)

The dehydrated status is set up and targeted just for the day of the competition.
