(waddayamean)

thanx alot for thekind words.Bumping the carbs is tough when you see such dramatic effects at lower carbs you tend to stay there. But the max ot workout is brutal on your body if you dont fuel it.First symptoms were very tikred all day after workout(i work out at 5:30 in the morning becauseof work) so after reading on these boards made the choice to up them.right away i felt diffrent better more energy. Most people who do an atkins style diet dont realize that you must up your carbs if you are going tgo workout you need them.So i mostly watch the simple sugars and hi gi carbs(except right after workout when i have a powerade or something like that)What alot of people also dont realize when you tell them that you eat 6 or 7 times aday thatb you arent sitting down to a three corse meal each time all i do is make sure that i dont get hungry.never give in never give up

RE: Newbie Question!! (Marc David)

I like Subway.. I dunno about the "diet" aspect but I think you can make some pretty healthy choice sandwiches when you are out doing errands and need some quick food.

RE: Newbie Question!! (boyrancher6250)

is the subway diet any good?? or is it all HOAX???? at only 6-10 grams of fat a GENERIC sub...its pretty darn good i assume...good luck on your quest big and tall

ironic how everyone struggles with something, some is to GAIN weight and other to LOSE. what it all comes down to "we cant have everything"

RE: Newbie Question!! (djduhon)

I commend you, not only have you had the will power to do this but you've done it the right way. It looks to me like you have done your homework and educated yourself. The number of meals you eat and the fact that you have adjusted your carbohydrate intake and still realize that you need to bump it more, diplays your biological knowledge. Good Job

D

RE: Newbie Question!! (waddayamean)

hey big n tall would really like to know a little about what you have been eating befor you made the choice to lose the fat.I too was once 400 lbs 6ft now at 270 after a starting an atkins type diet in march of this year.my diet before starting this journey was pretty much junk food and loads of pasta(my fav food at the time).prob the best advice i can give at the moment is be prepared to fight those urges they will ruin you if you let them get to you.If you slip a little or a lot let it go and go back to the plan never give in. you can do this.these boards are great for advice.

RE: Newbie Question!! (Marc David)

 Welcome to DB BigNTall!

I'll add my two points.

1-- Here's an article in regards to Whey protein and fat loss

2-- Djduhon is correct. You are about to really journey into the nutrition aspect of it. In fact, you could lose a ton of weight by diet changes alone and just a 3x a week, light workout. Without sounding salesman like.. but being honest, I think you could get a ton of knowledge about nutrition from a 337 page e-book called Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. I have it, bought it, read it (well still reading it cuz I'm a slow reader) but it's an awesome read. It's got really good details on how to eat, when to eat, what to eat and how food can be thermogenic.

There's a ton of good info in the Nutrition forum that may be of use to you. Basically, you eat more often.. yes.. eat more often.. 5-6 meals a day.. putting your body into a burning phase and keeping it out of starvation. Of course, those 6 meals are complex carbs, proteins and healthy fats.

You really have to commit to making a big lifestyle change in eating but I'm 99.9% positive if you do, you will notice results quite fast. And there's a lot of really good foods out there that will help you reach that goal. Meals do get repetitive but hey.. you'll be a chicken connoisseur soon enough.

Good luck, keep us updated, read the threads and posts and ask questions if you have them.

RE: Newbie Question!! (djduhon)

At 6'7" and 480 diet is the most important thing you can do. This is a good place to start to figure out what you caloric expenditure is so you can decide how much chow to stuff in your "pie hole". http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/food_ratios_and_calories_per_day/m_4251/tm.htm
I wouldn't be so concerned with whey protein, as anyone who has been on a serious cutting cycle can attest to solid food is what you want. This fills the stomach and takes time to digest instead of going right through you the way that processed protein does. You are embarking on a cutting cycle that I would venture to say none of us have... I commend you, it can be done but there are no miracle cures and at 2-3 pounds a week its quite the journey. You will be an expert in the dietary realm when you are complete. The mass will come for now I would be concerned with cutting. I would recommend chicken breast, tuna, eggs, etc.
Do your computations and then post your diet for everyones scrutiny, remember its going to be repetetive so pick your meals wisely...

Good Luck,
D

Newbie Question!!
