A kime is your internal force/energy. A good way to execute an extremely quick and powerful punch is to loosen the hand before a punch and hardening it right at the point of impact. It works really well and in fact, it can be used for boxing too. Try it at fighting stance, loosen both your fists and relax. When you release your punch, tighten your fists. You'll see the relaxed momentum continues even after you reach impact.

However, this method is good for short bursts but low rep. Meaning, you cannot really apply this on the speed bag. It doesnt really matter cos if you really did punch someone on the face, they'll fall back... and you needn't punch them in a frequency of 50 punches per minute...thats why there aint such a thing called b*tchpunching...

What you want to do is to execute maximum damage!

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (Pennsylvania Jock)

Speed benching may help, but speed isn't about how fast you punch. It's how you telegraph your punch. You could have a really fast punch, but if you **** your head a little bit or squint your eyes right before every punch, it'll get blocked by a good boxer. Speed is about getting there first and the other guy not knowing it's coming.

Weight training can help with your speed. You just have to get stronger without gaining too much weight. Make your muscles denser. You don't want "flabby" muscles like a bodybuilder has. You want the hard, dense muscles of a martial artist.

Speed is mostly the technique of your punch and how you telegraph it.

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (andy)

Your right wieght lifting will not make your punch faster at all. It will actually make you punch slower. Speed benching is the best way to become more powerful without slowing you down as much as a normal bench press to failure would. To get faster you need to do bag drills which work like pylos. Shortening your contraction cycle allowing you to throw a punch faster.

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (JayKid)

Learning to be quick and punch fast can not be learned through benching a certain way, I'm sorry.

It takes practice and good technique... not a certain weight training exercise.

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (andy)

Well doing speed bench what I did was a 5x7 on monday and friday.

You do a wieght that you can push fast as possible having the last rep slow you down very little. Try to up the wieght by 5 pounds every 2 weeks. Also do 2 days of speed punchings. I will have the routine my coach has me doing I changed it a little. Ill post it in andy's training in a minute.

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (damnanimalx24)

ohhhhhhhh i see. very interesting. so if i want to try and do speed bench, what kind of weight should i use and how many reps should i do?

and about finding a local boxing club, i just did a yahoo search for boxing gyms in massachussets (where i live) and a site came up with a bunch and i found one close ot me.

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (andy)

Speed bench is benching a amount of wieght in certain amount of time. So it would be very fast unlike a normal bench max.

max speed bench- Is amount of force you can put out in short amount of time. Which is like a punch

max normal bench- Is amount of force you can put out in no set amount of time. So its real slow, and a punch is not slow its fast. Those people you hear saying they can bench alot and all that maybe able to hit hard but slow.

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (8pack)

I wanna join a local Boxing Club too, but how do you find one?

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (8pack)

 Its BS

RE: ALL about Fighting and the training (damnanimalx24)

some good stuff there. I've got a heavy bag, and im goin to buy a speed bag within the month. Then I want to join a local boxing club. The only thing i don't really get is the speed bench max thing. What exactly is that?

ALL about Fighting and the training (andy)

Talk about anything that has to do with fighting/boxing here.

Few things I have seen and picked up are...

1. Doe'snt matter how much you can bench when it comes to hit power. Only thing you can do that you can actually compare to hit power is your speed bench max.

2. Don't stand there with your arms in front of your face. Its not going to do a damn thing. A straight punch will drive right threw them.

3. To defend yourself from a punch you need to step back and side step. Then if they throw a lefty you block it out with your right. Then you clock them with your left.

4. Theres 2 stand up stances you use in fighting and boxing. For a right hander its like this.

Jabing and blocking a left hander- you put your right hand up front.

Power hitting and blocking a right hander- put your left in front.

Use your jabbing stance in the start. Aim for the nose to get there eyes watering giving you a advantage. If there gaurding there face aim just below where there ribs meet that will take the air out of them. Leaving them stunned so you power hit him making it a quick fight.

5. Best way to improve your punching power and speed is to speed bench and punch a heavy bag. Also learning to speed bag will get your eye and hand coordination better.
