I might actually try doing sumo squats, and maybe my flexibility will improve after a while?
Re: RE: Squats (ANDY11)

hahah an elite member here only just starting to address his squatting issues

Re: RE: Squats (dr j)

Thanks - thats a good suggestion, I appreciate it.

Re: RE: Squats (King Bill Raaaymond)

I stretch every single day for 15 - 20 mins. You should maybe make stretching a daily habit.

Try just laying on your bench, with your arms out at your sides in right angles so they make an "L" and a parallel to the floor. Un-tense your chest and shoulders and let gravity do the work. Hold that position until your upper arms start to tingle. Then, move you arms so your hands are over your head, but still parallel to the floor. Hold until tingly. Stay loose, don't tense up your chest or shoulders.
Re: RE: Squats (dr j)

bumping this up, because I'm having the same flexibility issues. I do a door stretch a couple of times during the day, putting my arms out parallel with the floor, then pushing myself forward to stretch them backwards. then I do the same tilting them up at about a 30 degree angle, then again at 60. I always do this stretch again after working my chest, arms or shoulders.

Frustrating, because this is the only range of motion that I've really lost flexibility on since starting in May. There are others, but they are largely due to the fact that there is now more muscle, interfering with the amount I can move (eg, I can't flex my arm as far any more, as the forearm comes into contact with the larger bicep, and physically cannot move any further.)

RE: Squats (Nm0ney34)

rofl...that is signature quote material right there.

ORIGINAL: coldfire

ORIGINAL: trubeginner
Then what kind of exercises can you do in a smith machine?

Silly exercises.

RE: Squats (vdk_au)

dmobley01: Yes it is, this is my routine

Monday
Bench
Dips
Deadlifts

Wednesday
Chinups
Military Press
Leg Press

Friday
Same as Monday

etc..

I actually did try to widen my grip and I was able to do it, but it feels so weird the bar on my back. I've never done back squats before, seems kind of hard. I use to hate doing deadlifts, but it's like of my favourite's now, maybe that will apply to squats one day :)

RE: Squats (brihead301)

ORIGINAL: vdk_au

I think I still got a long away from been able to do them. I just can't simply put my arms behind my back, as mentioned at the start of this thread. One guy did help, but I was just wondering other people have similar problems and how they overcame it. And I think someone said to do a wider grip, that doesn't help but thanks.

Lol, that was me that suggested that. It does help, but it takes some time. Keep stretching to get your hands on the bar behind your back, and you will eventually get it.
RE: Squats (dmobley01)

Your best bet is just to stretch it until you get some flexibility. the door stretch was a good idea. Is your routine balanced meaning you work you chest and back equally?

RE: Squats (vdk_au)

I think I still got a long away from been able to do them. Some people really hate on smith huh?
I mean, I don't squat using a smith, but some guys do, and have benefited from it.

Because you can't squat in the smith machine. There is no such thing.

Then what kind of exercises can you do in a smith machine?
