I use to get some nasty ankle sprains playing basket ball. The physio gave me some exercises to do.

I can't remember them all but...

Picture a square with 4 quadrants on the ground. On one, leg hop in a circular fashion around the quadrants. As you get stronger move from circular quadrants to forward and backward, and then on to diagonal quadrants.

The next exercises I used a bicyle tube. Put one end of the tube under a table leg, insert your foot perpendicular to the floor, the tube will be positioned to the outside of the foot with tension, rotate at the ankle in an outward fashion

I don't recall the rest but there may have been a calf extension and a reverse extension with the bicycle tube as well. It's been a few years.

I add in the trusty ice pak for the swelling. Obviously one break is worse than any sprain but, the exercise will strengthen the muscles hopefully supporting the anlkes more.

Good luck

RE: weak ankles (SuperBman)

weapon X i really appreciate it and i will try and get it looked at by another doctor. I have really, really bad feet.. it runs in my family. They are extremely flat, and my left foot has a extreme falling arch. Basically it feels like my whole foot is turning inward... I was walking around for the longest time like this. What brought my attention to it was my outer ankle was killing me!!! What was going on was my foot was rolling in caising all my tendons to stretch like rubber bands to the max causing severe ankle pain. I would come home and ice it and I couldn't stay on my feet for very long.

Man, if I was in any kind fo contact sports... forget it!!! I would be done for!!! I actually tried playing basketball on it and my feet and ankles were sore for three days. My primary Doctor was clueless and actually wanted to give me a Cortizone Shot (The big dope). He refered me to a orthopedic doctor and he axplained all this bad feet deal to me...

If that is the case for you (Definetely worth exploring... get another opinion if your DR shoots you down)... what helped me big time was getting a custom pair of orthodox. They make custom molds of your feet (Not Dr. Sholls!) that take care of all your imbalances you may have causing everything to land nice and even.

They are kind of coastly, but well worth it... they only fit in certain shoes, but I now have three pairs. I was so discouraged with my weight training a while back because of this whole feet and ankle deal that I gave up on Squats and Deadlifts for awhile... but with the help of the Orhtodox and a pair of old school Converse Chuck Taylor's a have awesome balance now. The Chuck's are highly recomended because of the ankle support for lifting...

In the end... it's your doctor you have to talk to man, but don't be discouraged... I am sure there is something out there that can help.

RE: weak ankles (SuperBman)

alright, thanks again and if there are any other workouts or things i could do, it would be greatly appreciated.

RE: weak ankles (andy)

You could try putting a tennis ball under both feet and balance on them while rotating your ankles. If it hurts tell me ill see if i can find another thing you can try.

RE: weak ankles (SuperBman)

thank you for the help but unfortunatly i live nowhere near a beach... is there anything else out there i can do?

RE: weak ankles (Marc David)

Naviator mentioned today in a PM... running in sand.

weak ankles (SuperBman)

ive played 2 years of highschool football now and broke my ankles for a total of 3 times and i was wondering if there are any workouts or supplements to strengthen them?
