I always thought of it as an abdominal workout but it does put a nice bit of strain on your lower back. Maybe leaning too far forward.  Not keeping a nice straight back on the decent? &lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt;  You can work lower back by: &lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt;  Stiff leg deadlifts &lt;br&gt;  Deadlifts &lt;br&gt;  Reverse hyper-extensions &lt;br&gt;  Supermans &lt;br&gt;  Dumbbell Stiff Leg Deadlifts &lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt;  Those will target the lower back as the primary muscle group with varying degrees of difficulty. &lt;br&gt;   &lt;br&gt;  Not sure how to do one of those?
