I regret to say that ive never really tried stiff-legged lifts and would be interested to hear more about them in general. Can anyone and everyone who reads this and knows anything about them please give your opinion on how they have helped you? thanks

Ch

RE: Deadlifts (Topgun)

I do deads on both back and leg days.

Rack deadlifts or deadlifts off the floor will really thicken your lower back while also strengthing your grip, traps, and other body parts.

While Stiff Leg Deadlifts can add slabs of mass to the hamstrings.
THe way I perform SLDLs: I Put two 25lb. plates on the floor side by side, and place the balls of my feet on them allowing my heels to touch the ground. I find by putting myself in the position, the weight is really concentrated on my hams instead of my lower back. When I bring the weight up I pretend I am pushing my knees back against a wall.

Deadlifts are a great exercise, especially if you are shooting for mass.

RE: Deadlifts (Nic)

ORIGINAL: cpl

There's no such thing as muscle growing soreness. Soreness is not an indicator that you're going to build muscle, contrary to what a lot of people think- Challenging your muscles with heavy weight at your desired rep range is all you need to do in the gym- Outside of the gym, you need to eat, and rest right- It's that simple.

AMEN CPL !

RE: Deadlifts (cpl)

There's no such thing as muscle growing soreness. I can't walk a straight line for at least 3 days afterwords, I just cripple myself with the doms.

I instead to stiff leg dead-lifts on back day to target the lower back. But I can't ever tell if thats muscle growing soreness I feel, or if thats back damage discomfort I feel afterwords.

RE: Deadlifts (solidglobe)

Voted both. After a month of deadlifts once a week, I almost doubled the weight on the hamstring curl machine. Same with the lower back machine.

EDIT: wholy double post, I should read more

RE: Deadlifts (prometheus)

Voted both, I do stiff legged D's on leg day, realy work glutes and hams, then on back day normal full D's and rack pulls. Heavy on back day, lighter on leg day, one days rest between them, with back first in the week.
MON - SHOULDERS, TUE - BACK, WED - CHEST, THU - LEGS, FRI - ARMS

RE: Deadlifts (solidglobe)

Voted both just cause the first time I did them I noted equal soreness in each area. My lower back felt like I just did a whole bunch of hyperextensions.

RE: Deadlifts (Easy_E)

She Nailed it... Roman Deadlifts on Back day

Straight leg deadlifts on leg day... (If you feel you can handel more after those killer squats)

ORIGINAL: jenng

I chose Back day, because I assumed you meant the regular, romanian style deadlifts. But I do Stiff Leg deadlifts on Leg day, to target my hamstrings. So maybe I should have voted both?

RE: Deadlifts (BigBossMan)

Sumo deadlift is where you stand in front of the straight bar with your feet spread apart, out near the plates. You bend at the knees and the hips. Grab just to the out side of the smooth part on the bar. Head up and back arched(not rounded). Stand up until your knees and hips are locked out.

Stiff legged deadlift is where you grab the bar(just outside of the smooth part) while your legs are slightly bent(and locked in this position). Stand up with the bar.

RE: Deadlifts (the cat)

what are stiff legged dealifts and sumo.....the only dead lifts i know of is the hex bar thing and straight bar dead lift

RE: Deadlifts (BigJon)

Equal relationship yes but I do them on back day

RE: Deadlifts (WildOne)

If i pull from pins, which is rare, it's on back day. If I pull from the floor it's on leg day. However, I hate training squats and deads on the same day so I split legs into quad and hip dominant days so I don't have to worry about that.

RE: Deadlifts (schmiddi)

 I am for back

RE: Deadlifts (BigBossMan)

I do deadlifts on "leg" day.
