It is a long stretch of muscle and connective tissue that runs down the lateral (outside) aspect of the upper leg past the knee.

It is commonly injured while running or cycling long distances.

NSAIDS (anit inlfammatories) and proper stretching help tremendously with it.

RE: ITB Injury (Weapon X)

Good luck, that does sound like a knee thing. That treatment is perfect for repetitive stress injuries. Tell her to not get discouraged if her Dr. doesn't know about ART.. mine didn't and he kind of gave me a grin when I asked him about it.... he basically put it down with a facial expression he gave me because he didn't have much knowledge about the treatment. Feel free to PM me if you have any further questions... This is how guys in sports now are able to come back so soon after having severe injuries. They have these guys on the sidelines always on stand by. The guy I go to is actually in Saugraties, NY and he was telling me that he does all the Tri-Athalon events with the Athletes and he was even back stage at the last Woodstock working with Drummers and Guitarists with their hands and arms. It's something that I would urge everyone to check out if they have some type of injury that is preventing them from sports or any activity that they love.

RE: ITB Injury (bAlki)

Thanks for the reply 'Weapon X', sure my mom wil be pleased to research on another source that might help her to jog again.

RE: ITB Injury (Weapon X)

What's a ITB injury? Something with the knee? Sounds like when I went to get my elbow looked at... here's a prescription for some Vioxx and we will see you in a month???!!!! It really didn't do anything other than numb the pain... nothing to promote healing. Then when I went back they started talking about a possible Cortizone injection. That's when I came to the conclusion that my primary Dr. really didn't know that much about actual muscle or ligament injuries. I started looking in different weight lifting forums for an alternative and I came across ART (Active realese technique) therapy. I found the website and made an appointment... www.activereleasetechnique.com with a local provider. Like I said... I don't know what ITB is, but ART might help. Pain is a great motivator to try different things. This is a very popular form of treatment in sports circles and Powerlfiting. Look into it... it woked for me.

ITB Injury (bAlki)

My mother has an ITB injury. 50 years old, likes running
25km/week, not running currently.
