They are good for when you are pushing that 85% max rep for short burst. They Add to the stabilizers, thus allowing a stronger lift. At these weights, you want them. But for the development cycle of things, the long term use of them will not allow the ligaments and augmenting muscles to strengthen to get you to the next level. At work out levels 60 - 70 %(450lb in my case) I just don't use them, cause i feel I cheat, myself per se. It is like not going past 90 on the squats, if you train the ligiments to do so, then thats what you get. Once you get to heavy, and are forced to go past this 90 degree angle, a legit squat, you ligaments can end up doing the snap, crackle, pop on ya.Cause they don't know any better.
So for training purpose, no, don't use them, for support at optimal weight they are useful there to add support.
RE: GOTTA USE KNEE WRAPS (njmuscle66)

ORIGINAL: Bigc_sams777

Well with powerlifting being my main goal, I'm more concerned about putting up big numbers with good form. I know it's not good to use them all the time because ur knee doesnt get strengthened as much, which can potentially cause injury. But as far as muscle growth is concerned, I'm not really worried about it. Besides I only use them on HEAVY sets, like going 85 percent or more of my max. I plan to use them on about 2 of every 5 sets and for maxing out.

that is a good method and in keeping with your goals!
RE: GOTTA USE KNEE WRAPS (Bigc_sams777)

Well with powerlifting being my main goal, I'm more concerned about putting up big numbers with good form. They say it's important to wear these things plus it will supposedly add a hefty poundage to ur 1RM which is fine by me. Do all u squatters out there use knee wraps? I got the red lines by titan. What brands do you guys use? They feel pretty good, assuming that I'm putting them on correctly. I can't wait till my next squat workout to see what these things can do.
