They'd kick a marathoner's ass in the short stretch, but don't expect any to come close to the little guys in the long haul. You might want to check out Guerilla cardio, use our search feature. Short, intense, great for burning fat, and won't steal muscle like lots of long distance can.

RE: HELP (MPStar8908)

 Strenght

RE: HELP (8pack)

what are your goals man?? you want endurance? strength? mass? what?

RE: HELP (MPStar8908)

OK, I understand the marathon runners, but why do we see the big sprinters nowadays?

Should I Try biking a small distance, really fast?

RE: HELP (cpl)

Not so much phony sites, but misinformation- Riding a bike uphill might feel like you're really pushing your legs, and you are- But not in a way that you'd be building the muscle needed for heavy squats and deads. The same goes for marathon runners- If that sort of exercise improved your strength, you'd see HUGE legs out there in the races. The real hardcore runners though, they look like skeletons. I wouldn't dare ask one of them to get under a bar with 400 pounds on it. They train for endurance, not strength, same as bikers. Bodybuilders and powerlifters do the opposite- But I wouldn't expect either one of them to place decently in a marathon either.

RE: HELP (MPStar8908)

I use reps of 2 to show my max. I normally do go 5-8 reps. I'm sorry...i meant to say 150 for tricep pushdowns. I'll edit my post. My close grip bench weight max is 135, anyways. I read that riding a bike uphill does increase your deadlift and squat numbers, but i'll have to find that site again...there are a lot of phony sites out there.

RE: HELP (cpl)

Riding uphill is just about the only way bike riding can provide any sort of resistance- But even then, think about how many times you have to push on those pedals to get to the top of the hill. Sure, it's a pain, it's challenging- But it's nowhere near the type of challenge your legs get when you do a nice set of heavy squats. Weight training and endurance training are two different things- I doubt you'd ever get the kind of squat strength you have from riding a bike, no matter how many hills you go up. Your squat strength either came from actually squatting, or from good genes- Not that riding a bike is worthless, there are all sorts of benefits- But if it was beneficial to that sort of muscle gain, Lance Armstrong would technically have the biggest legs in the world, right? While he's obviously beyond the best in his sport, I seriously doubt he could get 400 pounds on a squat- And that's really not a lot when you're talking about serious lifters, that's nowhere near strongman material.
Riding a bike does involve serious cardio work, and it also improves endurance for your leg muscles- Keep it up.
My first question for you is, why only reps of 2? Do you normally work in that range, or is that just your max? Working in a higher rep range could help you out a lot, say 6-8 reps per set.
Second, what's up with the triceps pressdown weight? Even though you do seem to have some normal levels of strength imbalance between your upper and lower body, the triceps pressdown weight throws everything into disproportion- 250 pounds? If your triceps are able to handle that sort of weight but you can only bench in the 180's for a couple of reps, you could be headed for a serious problem- Besides that, it just seems wrong- If your triceps are really that strong, they should be able to handle a much heavier bench press almost by themselves. What are your numbers like for close grip bench presses? In fact, if those numbers ARE correct, it could be possible that your triceps are already overcompensating for your lack of chest strength when it comes to the bench- Try some dumbbell fly heavy workouts for a while, see how isolating the pecs a little helps.

RE: HELP (MPStar8908)

Even riding uphill? wow...thats news to me!

RE: HELP (MPStar8908)

Well I live in PA, near the top of the big appalachian mountains, and when i say riding a bike, i mean riding UPHILL...lol...i ride 2 miles uphill 3 miles down, and 1 back up.

Yes, those stats are true, i will post a pic ASAP.

RE: HELP (8pack)

 bike is all endurance

RE: HELP (8pack)

you need to raise your curls??

whaaa? i can bench the same weight as you but you can do waay more curls than i can. are those stats true?

And i dont know if riding a bike would get you better at dead lift and squat.
