Initially I made the stubborn assumption thinking that people simply ate more food instead of smoking..

RE: drinking vs. weight lifting (crayZkid)

When my friend and I drink, which is very seldom, he can't fight the urge and has to light up. I would love to se some of the articles you have found so I can show them to him!

RE: drinking vs. weight lifting (fresha)

Yep, I can relate to that.

There's nothing better than finding your true natural metabolism after years of struggling stuffing in calories to gain next to nothing.

It's very fortunate I'm involved in this "sport" as it's the ultimate incentive never to start smoking again.
RE: drinking vs. weight lifting (crayZkid)

My friend who has more recently become my workout partner finally gave up the habit a few months ago and has exploded. He can workout for longer, go harder, and has gained about 10 lbs., which now puts him at a LEAN 180 lbs. I didn't think smoking was that big a deal and did it on occasion but after doing some research, and espcially after seeing his transformation, I don't even want to be around second hand smoke!

RE: drinking vs. weight lifting (fresha)

ORIGINAL: psalms_soldier

I know BB'rs that smoke to help cut weight belive it or not. You couldnt pay me to smoke again. I was stupid enough to mess around with it in high school.

Whilst I haven't heard of that....

You would not believe the impact smoking has upon the metabolsim. Packing in smoking was the best decision I ever made. It literally crippled my ability to gain any sort of weight.

Smokers who read this type of info, usually just sweep it under the mat, but I discovered the very thing which was holding me back for so many years. I wouldn't babble on about the smoking risks etc, which everyone knows of already etc etc. I ****ing loved smoking. I smoked after a meal, on the phone, in social situations and so on, but this was enough to make me quit for good. It really was such a dramatic change to my body.

This post is to encourage those who smoke to quit, not start smoking by the way.
RE: drinking vs. weight lifting (psalms_soldier)

I know BB'rs that smoke to help cut weight belive it or not. Great, be prepared for all the lifting that you did that day is for nothing, and all the good food you ate that day is for nothing. Beer is not your friend in the weight lifting arena. Yet, a nice blender full of Whey Protein is. Now, that's more like it.

Yes, but there are some people out there like me who would be completely miserable without drinking on the weekends. Now I know it is really counter productive, but when I drink, I go balls out, and the more my inhibitions are lowered the less I care about how unhealthy it is. But on the other hand, if there was a "healthier" alcohol out there other than beer I'd make the switch. What's the deal with liquor? Is it just as bad? There's gotta be a good beer alternative out there, because me not drinking is just not gonna happen.
RE: drinking vs. weight lifting (PearlJammer919)

You want a coouple brewskis? It's person-specific, different people have different metabolisms and can deal with different amounts of alcohol. Alcohol is VERY calorie-dense so it is probably safe to assume that your friend is gaining fat, but not necessarily. I have friends who booze ALL the time yet they just have a natural BF % lower than mine. Genetics can suck!

To be honest, I drink once maybe twice a weekend, when I am bulking, and when I am cutting 0 - 1 times, it's gotta, I rarely make it a point to go out and get "wasted" but, when I am out I will have a few beers, most of the time it's Mich Ultra or Bud Light, but my point, the next day in the gym, I have really decent workouts. Maybe its the fact that I KNOW I have to lift harder because of what I did the night before. Maybe it's just me, but after eating clean ALL the time, I don't think it's TOO bad of a sin to have 4 - 5 beers.
