Of course, I'll be extra careful when I go back this time since it was because of an injury.

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (axgar)

ORIGINAL: cpl
Bruised my lower back falling off a ladder, it still feels like crap two days later, I'm not going to risk any lifting this week and see how it feels over the weekend.

Hey Cpl! Jeez, really sorry to hear the tough break. I trust you will recover quickly and enjoy the rest. Keep the faith and watch out when you squat!! First time I tried after 3 weeks everything went great until set #4. Keep the faith.

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (cpl)

Yep, I'm out of action for the rest of the week. My back's a bit sore, and I didn't want to push it, so I decided to take the day off from lifting and see how I feel tomorrow. I don't know whether or not it's an injury or just pain right now, but I like playing it safe when it comes to these kinds of things- I'll check back in here tomorrow, either with a journal entry involving a workout, or a doctor's note.

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (cpl)

MDA- No, I'm not using Max OT weight, at least not for all the exercises. I had to drop the weight on a lot of them since I was going for higher reps- But to my surprise, I was able to keep the same amount of weight and squeeze out seven or eight reps for both lat pulldowns and straight leg deadlifts, for some reason. Over the course of the past few weeks, I've had to adjust the amount of weight here and there a little to stay within the rep range- Especially the last week or so, since I've been overcome with DOMS and had to drop weight almost unilaterally.

That said, much of my program is "against convention."

Yeah... It's against the Geneva Convention.
Anyway, today was the last day of Phase One for me- I will literally be throwing a party tonight to celebrate. I might have some pics up by monday, no joke.
Barbell Squats
Quad Extensions
Incline Barbell Press
Cable Crossovers
Military Dumbbell Press
Close-Grip Bench Press
V-bar Press-downs

Again, eight sets for each exercise... Well okay, except for the close grip bench press, which was the last exercise of the entire phase for me. I quit after seven sets, to tell the truth- I came back a couple of minutes later feeling guilty, and lay under the bar for a while debating another set, and then wussed out. I was totally done, there wasn't another set in me. I am still totally wiped, and I'm going to cheat tonight with a huge freakin' bowl of ice cream, which I've been craving for a few days now for some reason...

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (Twin Peak)

ORIGINAL: slayerboy

Well, it's more of a two day split of a full body workout that you do 2x each per week.
Isn't that against ALL convention? aren't you supposed to train only once per week? The program sounds like hell.

Against all convention? No. No offense slayer, but if you believe that you have been reading to many bodybuilding rags. Or have you dropped that to just include whatever weight you need to use to stay within the 6-9 rep range for so many sets?

You asked if when I did legs (squats followed by presses) could I stay with the same weight. Yes. I did actually. And bumped it up. But the reps went down slightly. I could have done 315 lbs for squats again and then done about 450 lbs for some presses.

I forgot that when you superset, it's not the same muscle group on the TP program.

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (cpl)

It's twelve weeks, split into three four week phases.

So yesterday, I did legs. I did squats, supersetted with leg presses. Roughly the 6-9 rep range. 4 sets each.. 8 sets between the two exercises. I was tired.

I should have been clearer on how I did the supersets- I never superset two exercises that target the same muscles.
Since you tried this, I'm curious- Were you more or less able to stay at the same weight for each set?
By the way, I did manage to post some progress pics- One from before I started working out seriously, one from around six months after starting, and one from right before starting this program- they're right here.

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (jenng)

And to think y'all eagerly signed up for this torture! It's been fun to watch, can't wait to see the results.

(Is it 2 phases, 5 weeks per phase? Today, I got to do eight sets for each exercise. All I can say is, thank God this phase is almost over. My entire body is fried- I went to bed eariler than ever last night, and overslept this morning- All day, it felt as though I couldn't eat enough, and absolutely everything hurts. Actually, the muscles that hurt the most are my forearms- Even though there's been no direct forearm work in this phase, they've been getting blasted pretty damn good, and I found it hard to hold on to the bar for the last couple of sets for each barbell exercise. I wanted to quit at about six sets- Hell, I wanted to quit at three sets to tell the truth, I can honestly say I've never done such an intense workout as I did today. Supersetted everything again, I spent about an hour and a half, maybe a little more, getting through this one. I'm going to take some painkillers tonight, which I'm normally not in the habit of doing- But last night I woke up a couple of times from muscle pain- Not cramps, just pain.

RE: Cpl's TP-PT journal (cpl)

Evil crept in on me near the end of week three.
