If not.. do so. Make him aware of your goals and that you intend to workout hard.

On a related side note.. I' m not one to push muscle mags.. BUT.. in the September 2003 Issue of Muscle & Fitness (current issue I believe).. there is an article called " The Crucial ****" It' s by Mark Casselman, MS, CSCS and the article is centered around athletes who want a great physique but have diabetes.

It might be worth reading if you haven' t started reading anything on working out and how that will affect your glycogen levels.

Just a thought.

RE: need help (hulkerbts)

thanks for the help and i will post some picks for a before.and post more as i progress.

RE: need help (Marc David)

I would find out which type. One can be controlled via diet and exercise (for some it can) and Type 1 is genetic.. not much you can do.. medication is the only answer.

Here' s a sample bulking plan. Stays away from sugars (you might modify a few items as you should know sugars and their effects on you more then I do). But overall, it' s a great plan for putting on some weight and controlling the fat.

It' s just a sample plan. I followed it for a couple of days and then substituted similar items and added as necessary. But it gave me a good kick start to my foundation.

Sample Bulking Plan

Furthermore, I would recommend that you post some type of Online Training Journal in that forum. Follow the examples as some members have started doing them. It will give critiques a better opportunity to just focus on your goals, your nutrition and training.

It also serves as a journal for you to spot check your effects and make sure you are on the correct path.

You' ll notice some people are using FitDay to track their diets. Very good, FREE, tool to keep an eye on what and how much you are eating. I' d recommend you take a look at using it.

I' m impartial to the MAX-OT style of lifting and it' s program. Keeps you working hard, in the gym less and has worked for myself and appears to be working for a few members (most notably CPL). It' s a 165 page read, but probably worth you doing so.

MAX-OT Training

30 years old.. you are the same as as me. And it' s not too late to make some significant major life changes.

Another idea is to take pictures.. digital.. post them in the Critique My Physique forum or keep them to yourself.. as a visual progress marker. It' s really easy to tell when you look at 12 weeks worth of pictures if you are progressing or not and what areas you may want to focus on. Post or not, that type of monitoring method works well.

GL to you and keep posting.

RE: need help (hulkerbts)

i changed my eating habits to get away from the pills,my dr. never actually told me which type it is,but it runs deep in my faily.and i only see my doctor every three months about my diabetes, and last time i was there he said nothing of taking me off my 1 pill a day.by the way i am 30 years old.i had been told i was diabetic when i was 272 and decided i needed to get a handle on my food not the other way around.

RE: need help (Marc David)

diabetic

Type 1 or Type 2?

I ask because you went from 272lbs to 190lbs.. Type 2 can be self-induced via eating habits.

Certain cases of diabetic can be cured simply by changing and eating and lifestyle. A close friend was diagnosed with Type 2.. had pills and everything.. he was at an all time high for his weight.

He decided to eat right and join a gym.. he was not diabetic anymore.

That is my reason for asking. Is this something that your DR. has looked at continually to determine if you are still diabetic?

need help (hulkerbts)

new guy here.been working with free weights off and on for a few years but never serious.i weighed 230lbs. when i married my wife, as of about this time last year i was up to 272lbs.that gain was over an 8 year period by the way.now i way 190lbs. changed my diet and exercise consisted of walking and a cheap stair stepper.as far as diet i just quit eating crap junk food and cut back on how much i ate at meals because trust me it was insane.i am going to get back into lifting and want to know what kind of diet i should have to gain muscle mass but keep from gaining fat.i have gotten flabby around my waist and arms, legs are a little flabby but not to bad.and before commenting keep in mind that i am diabetic, not serious, not taking shots but a pill a day.thanks in advance.if there is any additional info needed just ask, cause i am realitivly new to these.
