Take care of yourself.

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

 Update...

Sorry for no posts for so long. There has been a rash of injuries around our gym. I seem to be the most damaged :), but there are several aches and pains. The competition was postponed to a yet to be determined date. The gym manager is getting closer to his competition, so I don't see ours happening until after that. I am going to be at least 2 months away from heavy weight, so I can't even think about it now anyway.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

Today was the first day back at the gym. I am only allowed to do light weights, so I stressed some cardio work. I have picked up a couple pounds recently, so the cardio is needed.

The gym may push the lifting event 2 weeks. If they do, I should be close to 100% for the event. If they don't push it, then I will lift what I can without killing myself.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

Well, went to the hospital yesterday. They ran tests and took xrays. Their determination is that it is just muscular. They said it looks as though the muscles pulled away from the ribcage. They recommend resting the muscles a day or 2 and go light with the weights until it feels good again. They prescribed Flexorall and Percocet to help me sleep and heal. Hopefully, I can get through this quickly, I miss the gym already.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

Yeah, and he said I needed bigger cohones. I think I am heading to the doc to see if I can get some magic meds to get me better.

All I can say is YUCK.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (pwolf66)

I think he pulled/strained either the lower lat or the serratus anterior muscle on the right side. I told him to get a heating pad and alternate heat/cold on it.

Paul

RE: Powerlifting Competition (Marc David)

That does suck! I'm sorry to hear that Laser. Maybe Paul was pushing too much!

Not good news but.. I'm hoping that an update will come soon saying you are back on track.

What did you do to end up damaging your right side? Just a pulled muscle?

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

 Update...

Not good. I have damaged my right side. I feel like I am being stabbed in the ribs. I could not do my bench and it is so bad I could not even jog on the treadmill. I think the hopes I had for this competition have just fallen to the curb. More importantly, I will probably not be able to effectively exercise for a while.

THIS SUCKS

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

 Also...

If pwolf is up to it, I want to 1 rep max bench next week. It was been awhile.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

 Update...

Deadlifts today. After 3 sets of 6 @ 335, I was able to rep out 405 once. I felt good with it, but did not feel I could get 2 out. I still have alot of work to do, but I have now gotten 2 of the lifts over 400.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (LaserX2)

The competition has been moved to the last week of May. That gives me a little more time to get the numbers up. I may yet get the 1100 mark.

Today I fell a little short of plan on squats, so I can't post any new gains. Tomorrow is deadlift, so I may be able to post something after them. I have not tried a new max on chest recently, but I can say that the workouts themselves have gone quite well.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (pwolf66)

ORIGINAL: mda1125

You've made Paul jealous. And he's paid me $30 to limit your posts. I'm jealous as well of all this 600 lb deadlifting going on.

Yeah, Jeff(Laser) and I have been pushing it pretty hard since we started. Now that I look back at our progress and the weights that we've been pushing I'm shocked at the realtively minor aches and pains we've suffered. Jeff's progress in squat and deadlift has just been amazing. He's passed me like I was standing still and is starting to really go heavy.

I've been limited the last couple of weeks because of concern for my shoulder/upper back and some really crappy technique in deadlifts. Now I've got some sort of 'tweak' in my right hip. Very annoying. Such is life tho.

Paul

RE: Powerlifting Competition (Marc David)

You've made Paul jealous. I do not remember the exact day, but I do remember that 100 lbs on the Smith machine felt like a ton when we started.

I once was a great baseball and football player, but have fallen from grace. I guess my natural build just needed a kick start, not to mention the intense motivation of someone like pwolf66. I think the biggest thing for me is the urge to go to the gym everyday and see what weight I will get next. I can honestly say that going to the gym helps motivate me to go to work, since the gym is at my work.

Just keep pumping the weight and go heavy. That is the main thing I have been trying to do is go HEAVY. Some days it is tough, but on those good days it feels great.

Laser

RE: Powerlifting Competition (slayerboy)

435 Squat
385 Deadlift
255 Bench

1075 Total
I am such a wuss! But, how long has it taken you to get to those numbers? I've only been working out for a year and I'm not even half of that. Those re amazing numbers man!
