(cpl)

Get your diet straight first, then worry about supps. Solid food is always better than shakes, those are really designed to supplement an already good diet anyway. While they can be an excellent source of extra calories, most of your calories should come from solid food anyway.

RE: Cant gain wieght because can't eat? (cpl)

Keep in mind, eating's not all about waiting till you're hungry. In fact, if you're getting hungry, you've already wasted time. The trick is to eat before you even get hungry, which can be a pain getting used to.
Eat every two to three hours- If you find yourself getting hungry before that time, chances are your meals aren't big enough.
To find out how many calories a day you really need in order to gain mass, check out the top of the nutrition forum for a post about calorie calculators. Use the info in there to find out how many calories you need.
RE: Cant gain wieght because can't eat? (AznR6)

Phat - no I've seen the same gains with 2800 Cal (1st week started @ 2500). I've read that about a lb a week is good/normal. Plus I've it seems like I've actually lost body fat, seeing more definition in the abs...still a long way to go though lol!

Mike - sorry if I'm mistaken about what a gainer is. But the way I look at it 350cal (musclemilk) is pretty good, especially since I add in yogurt, fruits and juice...about 700cals to start off my day.
RE: Cant gain wieght because can't eat? (MikeJ)

Yeah I tried a gainer about a year ago when i wanted to start lifting, and it was terrible It was so thick it felt like i was drinking motor oil. I have read good things about muscle milk too especially the taste, but isn't that protien and not a gainer or both? Or should I try a gainer with the muscle milk? And I will definatley look into making my own since i would be more likely to add things to my liking just need to find a few recipies, i think theres a recipie section on here somewhere i'll try looking there. I'm trying to gain alot in short amount of time without adding too much fat, yet a little fat would still be ok for me because i'm pretty thin. I'm stoping martial arts and picking up kickboxing and am trying to get into a higher class than lightweight or featherweight. Trying to go in competition without looking like this:

RE: Cant gain wieght because can't eat? (AznR6)

It was hard for me in the beginning to get all the cals, especially in the right breakout, but No1/4 is right after a while you get used to it and the hunger comes naturally...now I feel like I HAVE to get something in my stomach every 2hrs or so. Also don't just eat till you're full, plan your diet. I was doing that in the beginning and was finding out I really wasn't get everything I needed.

As for weight gainers, CAT is right on all counts. I'm trying my own homemade gainer, but for a guy that is already having trouble with appetite it's pretty hard shoving these things down my thoat...not impossible but definitely don't look forward to that part of the day! I've heard a lot of +'s and -'s about Muscle Milk (powder), me personally I can't think of an easier and tastier way to get 350cals...yeah 18g fat, (suppose to b good fats?) but by keeping the rest of the meals lowfat (except dinner) I can afford it.

RE: Cant gain wieght because can't eat? (AznR6)

Mike - Had the same problem as you. I'm also the same weight and height but I've added ~3lbs in as many weeks.

The first thing u should do is plan your diet. That means knowing how many cals you need, planning and tracking your meals and eating every 2-3hrs. Go to the Best of Nutrition for ideas and links http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/Best_of_Nutrition/m_44179/tm.htm
