i have had some shoulder pain. went to the doctor and he said i had strained the rotator muscle, and try not to use it for about a week. he said at my age it should not give me a lot of trouble and would not need to have any repair for a few more years.(I am in my 50's so am i to just stop wanting to feel better) i have looked through some exercise books at the library and can't find anything on rotator muscle exercises. any ideas where i can find any information ? thanks barry

Hey Barry, The attached link may help you with what you are dealing with. You probably want to take the time off and rest as the doctor recommended. Rotator Cuff Link

Barry: I don't know if you are doing any bench presses. But, it's probably the worse exercise you can do. If you are going to continue bench pressing, use dumb bells. I used to do bench press, but, like you, began "hurting." so I gave up the bench. I now press 75 pound dumb bells without any trouble. And, I weigh about 145 pounds. Most important, I do it without pain.

I have rotator cuff tendinitis, but this is a completely different problem, with a completely different solution. I'm 21, and mine is due to not having enough muscle. Building up the muscle around the tendon makes the tendinitis go away, kinda backwards if you ask me but I suppose it makes sense. Just another comment. I'm not saying go lift weights, listen to your doctor, but I just want to make sure that others reading this article look at both sides. A strained rotator and tendinitis in it apparently feel very similar (re: my doctor). But the tendinitis has been around for, oh, almost a year now, and I can't sleep on my shoulders unless I've been working out lately. Not that that's been a problem for a month or so, but it was a definite symptom. ~Ailia~
