question - Tuesday, March 02, 2004 10:13 AM ( #1 )
just curious, im like an addict to ice tea, that cold brew is my daily curse i guess you could say. question is, i am starting to get back into shape, figured i would go the cardio/diet (wake up, do push ups/crunchs/jog) then move into the lifting phase. but on the diet aspect, is ice tea with the occasional hit of sweet n low, or kool aide (no real sugar, just sweet n low) that bad of a thing for a diet? no one really seems to hit the drinks (excluding cokes and water) end of diets.

Ice tea is perfect. Especially with using sweet n low.

I have often seen the advice that you should drink an extra cup of water each day for each cup of (iced) tea or coffee you imbibe, presumably to counteract any diuretic effect.

That would make sense. I drink too damn much water. This summer when all the water shortages come back, they're going to be knocking on my door.

So tell us... how do you make your iced tea??

This shouldn't be an issue with your diet but there have been several studies that have determined that nothing beats just water for helping the body with digestion, weight control, hydration, etc..

The only unfortunate part is that none of the studies could say WHY plain water was better than say ice tea with no sugar, etc..

So having ice tea shouldn't be a problem but don't use it to REPLACE the water that you should be drinking (at least a 64oz a day)
