protein from shakes for deficit?
-
Monday, January 05, 2004 8:40 AM
i've read that if your bodybuilding or using weights you should consume at least 1g protein for every pound in weight. I have also read on some different bodybuilding forums differing advice in regard to taking protein drinks, for instance i read from some guy that i should only take a protein drink once a day after a workout and if i take a protein drink on days i'm not training i'm wasting my time, my question is, if i don't manage to reach my protein goals using 1 protein drink and protein from other sources each day should i supplement the difference with protein drinks as i'm having a hard time getting all the protein from other sources each day or would that be a bad idea? Do i also take the same amount of protein on non training days as i mentioned earlier i was told that this is of no benefit. Thanks for any answers in advance.

* 1 gram per pound of LBM is the *minimum.* * Consume whole foods or shakes at your leisure to reach your minimums. It makes little practical difference (in terms of muscle built) which the come from. * Except post-workout when your protein should come from whey protein. * Before bed whole foods or a casien based powder is best. * The rest of the time, its not that important, so long as you get sufficient protien. In sum, eat and drink up.

Also, keep in mind that your muscles don't just grow on the days you work out. I imagine that getting enough protein on the days AFTER a good workout are nearly as important as the day of the workout.
