Alright, so I've been doing some research on this matter.  I mix skim milk with my protein for my post-workout shake.  I've heard conflicting views on the matter of whether the milk (casein) will decrease the absorption rate of the whey protein.

Is this true?  Also, the gym I workout at has a "protein bar" where I get them to mix my shakes for me so literally, I don't have to wait for PWO shake.

Forwhatever it's worth, my shake consists of 2 scoops ON Whey, a banana, 6 oz. skim milk and ice.

Yes, any type of milk will slow down the absorption rate. So you really should mix your ON Whey with water so that your body will "receive" the protein faster. This only applies to the post workout shake though, as this is when you need protein as fast as possible.

Also, you might want to consider adding some high glycemic carbs such as dextrose or a sports drink to your post workout shake because its important that you replenish your body with these types of carbs after an intense workout.

An an example, this is what my post shake contains: (I know some people out there will disagree, but it works just great for me and many others)

- 500ml water
- 4 servings of Powerade in powdered form
- 30-40 grams of Whey Protein (any decent brand)
- 5g creatine (if i'm supplementing with creatine of course)

And shake it all together in my portable shaker bottle. That's it, simple but effective.

I use to always mix my post workout shake with 1% MILK. Now ive been told that the milk slows down the absorption of the whey protein. Others i've talked to say that if you use water instead of milk the whey will be used to replenish depleted blood sugar levels before anything else. Im not very good with the nutrition aspect so if someone can explain to me why if you mix your post workout whey with milk why it slows down the absorption, yet mixing only with water the whey will be used to replenish your blood sugar thus the protein not even making it into the muscles??? someone please explain..

i don't know if you're just making this too hard or what.  but it's like me bringing you 2 different types of colored pencils.. red, and green ones. and asking you to sort out the colors from eachother before I can use them.

Same thing goes for the body.  you're putting 2 different types of protein in at the same time, and the body has to kind-of sort out between the 2 before it starts using it.

granted.. i don't think this is detrimental and it's not as big of a deal as it sounds.  I have milk with my protein all the time.
