protein before working out?

so I've been taking maybe about 20grams of isolate protein with like 50 grams of dextrose 30 mins before i lift. is this effective? Or is it just a waste of protein? I've read that it does help replenish the torn muscle fibers as you're lifting. is this true?

The three times when protein is the most essential is upon wakening, post-workout and before bed. Before working out protein is good, but you'll also need a direct energy source like carbs or fats...this will allow optimal glycogen and fats for optimal ATP levels during your workout. I would personally recommend relying on whole foods pre-workout, just make sure there's a carbs source and/or fats source with them. Then take the shake post-workout.

I'd say have real protein before bed seeing as you aren't needing that quick intake that you would in the morning or post-work
