First off dude, you have to hone in of what head of the deltoid your trying to augment. In the title of this thread you say posterior(the back), in the first post you say anterior(the front). Which one is it?

Anterior: Any pushing movement, pick one.
Posterior: Rear Lateral Raises as said above, or any back movement. Think about it, all three heads of the deltoid are used during most compound movements. Add in this one iso, rear delt raise, and you're golden.

OH Press is not for the posterior deltoids, it's an anterior delt direct movement.

Posterior deltoid stimulus comes from pulling from the overhead or from the infront - rows, face pulls, pull-ups, bent over lateral raises.

Neglecting the posterior deltoids while contributing to stimulus to the anterior deltoids (pressing movements) can cause rounded shoulders, so please, work each plane that you push in (horizontal/vertical) and compromise the opposing force (pull) in the same planes to avoid this.

Wall handstands for time have really improved my rear delts, my middle traps have practically exploded as well. Manna's are supposed to really work the rear delts and triceps.

Hand stands would be the same as overhead presses; anterior delt dominant.

Due to the positioning of the shoulder and the anterior delts being closest to the external load.

Dominant stimulus to the back (including the posterior deltoids) comes from pulling, a completely different force than overhead presses or lateral raises.

.....which is exactly why I said to do it for anterior deltoids -_-

do you read anything I post?

Re:posterior deltoids?? - Monday, June 15, 2009 12:26 PM ( #18 )
That is a little confusing, it's like me making a thread saying "my quads are weak!!" then asking what I should do to develop my hamstrings, lol.

Here's what you should know.

Anterior deltoids (front delts) are stimulated during "pushing" motions to the infront or from the overhead like a bench press and overhead press. Front raises are another example.

Lateral deltoids (side delts) are stimulated through a lateral raise type of movement.

Posterior deltoids (rear delts) are stimulated through pulling (as mentioned) from the overhead or from the front of the body like a pull-up, a row (not an upright row) but a barbell/dumbell row, face pulls or bent over lateral raises which is a direct posterior delt movement that involves a little bit of the back.

OH Press, Lateral Raise and posterior delt raise is all you need to develop good shoulders.

I think your missing the point, his title may be posterior...but in his first post he asked for anterior...

Virt gave him an anterior main movement, it was the OP who messed up not Virt, he also corrected himself before you quoted him and told him he was wrong.

Thats why he got an attitude. So, just saying its not his fault.

He said posterior there, the title of the thread was posterior delts. He mentioned anterior delts in his opening post but seeing the title was posterior it was easy to identify that it must have been a typo. If the title of the thread is posterior delts, it's most likely what the person is asking for.

Even if he mentioned anterior delts in his opening post, if the title of the thread is posterior delts you just address that too and not only list an anterior delt movement.

I have no hard feelings towards Virt, we all make mistakes...

I just think if the title was posterior deltoids that should have been addressed too..
