popcorn is my favorite junk food...

I like to make it a pot and cook it with olive oil...so it is very plain...I add salt...is this too bad?

Only the salt is bad.  Perhaps there are other seasonings you can use??

Popcorn is awesome for the health. It's whole grain, good carbs, and the olive oil is very heart-healthy.

Salt is bad indeed. Sodium intake should be perfectly balanced, and most of the food you'll eat will fill your daily sodium requirements.

I'm appalled you could even fathom that it would be nasty.  Cook the sourkrout and the popcorn at the same time.  Eat them together.  It's better than cottage cheese pancakes.

If you cook olive oil to the smoking point, the structure changes it turns from a good fat to a bad one. Olive oil has a very low smoke point compared to the rest of the oils.

I use peanut or grapeseed oil for all my high temperature oil needs. Peanut if the flavor is complimentary to the dish, grapeseed if I desire a flavor neutral oil.

Extra light olive oil (which is refined) stands up to heat better than extra virgin. It's still not good for high heat or anything that requires long cooking, but it can be used for most normal frying. Extra virgin olive oil shouldn't really be used for cooked much at all, since even if you don't damage the oil itself, you'll destroy the flavors in it that you paid extra for. But you could put some on your popcorn after you've already cooked the popcorn. There are spray bottles for oil that are pressurized with a pump mechanism that are useful for spraying olive oil (or any other oil) on things like salads or popcorn.

Oh I did not know the structure of olive oil changes with heat.

That pour/drizzle it over the popcorn is a good idea...
