i know what you are talking about, i get it on my right hand too. Using gloves helps out alot, and try grabbing the bar alot harder grabbing it totally around and with more strength, that helps too

Gloves are a good idea... but never wrap your hand around the bar!

Example... grab a can your four fingers are on one side and your thumb on the other; bad form! Instead, put thumb on same side of bar as your other fingers. Allow the bar to rest between the palm of your hand and where your underside knuckles of your fingers meet your hand.

It takes time to get used to.. this type form... but it is easier on the wrist and hands in general. (tendons, ligaments and joint stress.) You're actually letting the bar rest in the cusp of your hand and the weight is balanced across the entire section. In time, you will actually be able to life more weight than if you stick with the other grip!

It was taught to me when I was 18 by a body-builder in a local gym. Later, a power-lifter advised the same! The only excercise I use with a wrap around grip with thumb underneath is reverse pulldowns and reverse curls. (i.e. Anything reverse)

Yea, I've gotten weak on decline and really need to correct this! I need to start doing decline flys again to stretch then then dedicate more time to  training on decline press.  I don't go to a gym anymore... I have everything at home that you could find in a gym.

When I was 25... before my auto accident (long story  & painful memories), I was doing a 340 max decline... but everything else was much higher too. Besides, age finally factors in too! Oi, 40 isn't old... but it is old for weightlifters! Especially when you stop to think about how many TONS of weight you have lifted over the past 24 years.

ohh, I just thought you may have made an error, I dont even do declines, I do Inclines once a week though, and Im still way stronger at decline. Im naturally stronger at declines, since day 1, and Incline have allways been more of a struggle for me. but I guess everyone is differnt.

I used to get the same thing when doing bench.  I had to take a break from it completely for 2 weeks before it went away.  I tried ignoring it which didn't seem to do any damage but the pain still stayed there until I took a break.

Edit: Oh yeah.. like 8pack said gloves/wraps/changing your grip can help too.

Yeah gloves help alot, but i noticed the wider griped bars in my gym arent so bad.
