ever since ive been doing curls with the bar my forearms feel like they are going to give out on me and just snap in half.. it doesnt feel like the muscles at all it feels like its the bone.. i dont know if i should take a break or lower the weight or what... i cant add weight either because it will just cause more agony for me.. it only hurts when i do curls with a bar and when i do preacher curls with a plate-loading machine..they have been hurting since about 3 or 4 weeks ago and its getting to the point where i cant handle it anymore. i worked out my biceps yesterday like i usually do and my forearms hurt all of today.. it sucks and i need to know what to do.. any suggestions? please help.

This is quite a common problem. What happens is sort of like mini-stress fractures in you arm bone - like shin splints. Im going out on a limb here but im guessing that you havent been doing weights for too long and that you dnot have the greatest forearm development in the world and that you are still young. For now, id ease up with the bicep weights. Use lighter weights and do more reps. I would work on forearm muscle development. Also if you are indeed quite young, its probably part of the growing process where your bones are already under stress to grow so added forces on them from doing crazy bicep weights is not going to make life easier for them. Not only biceps, but any sort of weight lifting where your forearms are involved will stress the bone. So try to ease up off the weights Arnie. Take some rest. work on them forearms.

Hi there, I'm a brand new member and this is my first post. I am experiencing the exact same problem that is brought up here. I have been having a great deal of pain in my left forearm when doing bicep curls, and I've been having this pain for a couple weeks now. The strange thing is, I only feel the pain in my LEFT forearm, and I only feel the pain when doing any sort of bicep curl, not any other lifts for any other muscle groups. Here is a little background info - I am 19 years old (college sophomore), I have been lifting weights since senior year of high school so I'm not a total beginner but I am looking to get serious about it now and make some big gains, I'm left handed (in case it matters). I'm positive that the pain I'm feeling is in the bone of my left forearm, not the muscle. What I figure is that the strength of my biceps (and most other muscles for that matter) have exceeded that of my forearms. I can't honestly say I've ever spent a lot of effort developing my forearms, and I realize that they are underdeveloped. For instance - sitting at the preacher bench, I can curl 35's on each side easily, and standing with the EZcurl bar I can rep 45's. My only concern is that the pain is in the bone, not the muscles of my forearm. And why only my left forearm, when it would make sense that my left forearm would be naturally stronger and dominant since I am left handed? I will definitely work on developing my forearms, but if this pain persists I will probably end up seeing a doctor.

Because you are left handed, you tend to exert more pressure with your left arm than your right when doing weight - most people do this without knowing or meaning to. hence you will probably notice that your left forearm is slightly bigger, your left bicep is probably slight bigger etc... No big deal, most people have the same problem. Lik i said before, a big part of the problem could be that your bones are yet 'soft' and still growing. Its not worth trying to push out crazy weights, injuring yourself & putting ureself out of the gym for however many months. Slow and steady does it. Keep a good clean diet, concentrate on form and give your forearms a good workout. i guarentee u will put on size, and do it safely. I think a lot of exeperienced bodybuilding will agree that a good workout will contribute only about 30% in terms of muscle growth. The other 70% comes from diet and rest.

Exactly the same problem here. Started to hurt when i was able to do about 25 repetitions on biceps and bout 40 repetitions on forearms with 13 kg dumbells. Guess i'll go and buy me some calcium supplements :)
