pain from trap shrugs?

I lifted from 13yrs of age till early twenties. I have recently begun again now approching 28 years of age. All throughout my training, I've always experienced colar bone pain after working traps. I am no longer able to do chin-ups because of chest (rib) pain (like a bruised stirnum or something). Does anyone know why or how to avaoid this pain, specifically after doing shrugs? Example: Last night, I did shrugs, fairly heavy, on the smith machine. I then went to dumbbells for some shrugs. Last night and all day today my collar bone (above my chest) feels sore (like bone soreness). It's like my frame or bones are not strong enough to support the weights I lift? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm an endomorph build, benched 365 1 time in prime, 5'8", 200 lbs. Still have muscle and strength along with a bit of a gut now, if this helps any?
