olympic bars?

I've been lifting @ home 4 about 1 1/2-2 yrs, and previously @ a gym. The bar i use to bench with weighs 25 lbs. and isn't very thick. It is harder to lift larger weight with it. Could it makes my chest and shoulders hurt like hell? Cause they do. I am 2 days into my routine after taking 2 weeks off from lifting. My chest hurt bad and the doc said i possibly had an inflammation of cartlidge in my chest. My Question is would an Olympic bar be easier to bench more with, and cause less strain on my pecs, and delts?

honestly im stumped...are u usin too much weight? thats the only reason i can think of that would make u get inflammed. i dont think the bar would have anything to do with it.unless maybe your grip is too close...i really have no idea
Determination...nuff said.

I know your not stupid but I just got back into training after a month off and after I did my back exercise I thought every bone was broke in my back the next day. So it could just be that you shocked yourself lifting heavy breaking down alot of muscle. Plus I dont see it being the bar since you have lifting at home for a year and half. So im sure you have lifted with that bar before. A 25 pound barbell is lightest benching bar ive heard of though, I thought a 35 lb was oO.

Olympic bars have those bearings in the sleeves them to let the weight swivel around - if your other bar doesn't, maybe that's forcing your arms into a less natural position in order to keep a grip on the bar? That's my only guess.

ORIGINAL: tryin2getripped The bar i use to bench with weighs 25 lbs. and isn't very thick. A 25 pound barbell is lightest benching bar ive heard of though, I thought a 35 lb was oO. i used to bench with a 15 pound bar. its the bar that uses standard size weights. basically the bar is one size straight across. actually come to think of it i also had a 5ft or 6ft bar that was 11 pounds. but all these bars including the olympics bars are all the same thickness where you grab it. so i dont understand what you mean by it isnt very thick. My chest hurt bad and the doc said i possibly had an inflammation of cartlidge in my chest.
did you slam the bar onto your chest? Kouch-honestly im stumped...unless maybe your grip is too close...i really have no idea thats what i was thinkin.

I don't know how you'd mess up cartilage on your chest unless you are hitting it with the bar. That's no good.
